Rockstars Choosing to Matter in Room 25
Testing Season is Here!
Good morning! I hope you enjoyed a wonderful long and sunny weekend. This short week is the last week before we officially begin ISTEP+ testing. Monday, February 27th will be our first test, and each morning until March 2nd students will test at approximately 9am. I am confident that your child is prepared and ready to do very well on these tests!
Please be sure your child is getting plenty of rest and eating healthy foods this week to prepare them for next week. It is imperative that they are rested! Also, if your child is sick, please DO NOT send them to school! We can give your child a make-up test once he/she returns to school, so please do not risk your child getting sick half way through the test and receiving a Did Not Pass score because they could not finish.
This is a great week to continue to practice Growth Mindsets in your child, reminding them to do their best and building confidence in them. All their hard work this year will pay off! It is normal for students to feel a little nervous, but continue to remind them that we all believe in them. I know they'll do great!
As always, let me know if you have any questions!
This Week's Set List (February 21-24)
Week at a Glance/Skills for the Week:
LITERACY – We are continuing unit 3 in reading, which focuses on researching history. Students will learn that readers of history focus on who, what, and when to make sense of our past. We will tie this in to our Civil War Unit in social studies.
WRITING – Students are working hard on their Young Author Books! Art and Author Night is on March 21st, which is when the final published book is due.
MATH – We will wrap up Unit 8, which has an emphasis on building number sense through exponential notation, place value, and adding/subtracting negative integers. The test is tentatively scheduled for Friday, March 3rd.
SPELLING – All students in our class have exhibited mastery in grade-level spelling. Therefore, we will no longer take weekly spelling tests. We will, however, continue to review spelling patterns and skills that will be helpful in authentic writing.
SCIENCE – We will be learning about Force and Motion!
SOCIAL STUDIES – We are studying the causes and main events of the Civil War as we work on our researching skill and nonfiction reading/writing.
TIPS - This week in TIPS, we will review good test taking skills as we prepare for ISTEP+ testing next week!
