Why is India called a subcontinent?

India is called a subcontinent because the Himalayan Mountains separate the subcontinent and the Indian subcontinent is a part of a tectonic plate. Also India is often called a subcontinent because it is a distinct landmass.

Daily Life

Homes

There homes would be made out of bamboo or wood with a thatched roof.

Clothing

People in India wore some of the same garments. Another thing they would wear is called a dhoti. Dhoti was a very long cloth that was draped around the lower body or legs. Women wore a sari, a sari is a long cloth that wrapped in the upper body and lower body. Both men and women wore jewelry.

Food

The Gupta empire meals were both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. They grew and ate the various grains as both cereals and breads, with many different types of vegetables, fruits and nuts. They also drank milk from cows and goats.

Education

Some kids did go to school the school was called Ashrams. Kids learned math, science, literature, music and religion, as well as learning how to read and write. Some also learned how to take care of themselves by cooking, cleaning and washing clothes.

Jobs

People were farmers also people were expected to work for the king or ruler every year for a period of time. Also the people of the Gupta period were paid for their time. They might also work on building or fixing roads, or digging and dredging canals. It was work that benefited all of the people.

The Gupta's entertainment was art, architecture, literature, music, and dance. They enjoyed paintings, statues, sculptures, folk art, tapestry, embroidery, myths and stories, and more, the many arts of India have offered a wealthy of imagination, engineering, and artistry for thousands of years.

Government

Ancient India had a strong government. Ancient India’s government type was Monarchy. Maharaja was also a Monarchy. Monarchies would have spies, which would go around town and come back and tell them what’s going on around town.

Games

India played games like polo, Chess, Snakes and Ladders, Playing Cards. Cards were made out of cloth and depicted motifs from the Ramayana, Mahabharata. In chess there is only 4 players who could play, but there was 2 teams.

Sports

India played sports like Judo and Karate. Karate originated from India to foreign

countries and then to others and others.

Medicine

The practice of surgery has been recorded in India since around 800 B.C. and Shastrakarma (the art of surgery) is one of the 8 branches of Ayurveda, which is the ancient Indian system of medicine.

An interesting fact is Hinduism is the oldest known religion in the world, It goes back to 5,000-10,000 B.C.
Reincarnation is a person who believed in a particular soul and who believed to have been reborn.

There basic belief is that they believe in suffering,

The Four Noble Truths is the Buddha's teachings, though they leave much left unexplained. They are the truth of suffering, the truth of the cause of suffering, the truth of the end of suffering, and the truth of the path that leads to the end of suffering.
