Note from the Principal
The End is Near…
It is hard to believe that we are within 15 days of the end of school. What a GREAT year this has been at Boone!! So many exciting and wonderful things have happened this year it is hard to name them all. As strange as it might be to say – I am already looking forward to building on these successes next year. Things are definitely happening at Boone and it is a wonderful place for children.
Please remember, as we near the end of the school year, that is a time of mixed emotions for our children. While they are excited about the start of summer and not having school, they are also realizing that there are good-bye’s that need to be said and relationships that will come to an end. This can be a hard time for many of our students. Keep this in mind as we move forward through May. If you child starts acting out or acting in ways that are not typical, this is often a sign of the mixed emotions they are feeling.
For children, expressing emotions is difficult. Many times they do not understand why they feel the way they do and they have a limited repertory of way to express themselves. Often, they may verbally lash out, or seem down, as they struggle to understand what they are feeling. Patience on your part will go a long way to helping your child through this time. Talk with them. Be with them. Help them find the words they need to appropriately express themselves. This is a time of change when family and stability become very important and your caring approach will make this so much easier for you children.
Campus Advisory Council seeking new members for the 2018-19 school year
The Boone Campus Advisory Council is looking for 2-3 new parents to fill roles on the CAC. We meet once a month from 3:20 – 4:20 pm. The role of the CAC is to provide support and guidance over various school related topics and plans. Parent input is extremely valued at Boone and this is an important part of what keeps Boone great. The application for the CAC is attached to this email. Please complete the application and submit it to the main office. The CAC will be reviewing the applications and voting on new members at our April and May meetings. If you have any additional questions, please contact me directly at 512-414-5311.
Parent Input Student Placement Form
Attached to this email is the form for you to use to provide any input you would like regarding your child’s classroom placement next year. As always, I ask that you not request individual teachers by name. I simply cannot honor those requests. However, if there are any issues, concerns, or other student problems you would like us to know about, please complete the form and return it to the office. Hard copies are also available in the main office. Just drop by and we will get you one. Forms will be due by May 11th.
Campus closed to Visitors for STAAR
As you know, Boone is a family school. We want our parents in and around the campus helping and volunteering as you have always done. This is one of the many things that makes Boone such a special place. With that said, I do need to ask your help and patience the week of May 14 - 18 as we have our second round of STAAR testing this time for third, fourth, and fifth grades. On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, May 14th, May 15th, and May 16th, we will be closing Boone to all visitors for all grade levels for the entire day. We will be using just about every available space in the school for testing with the classes and small groups and want to make sure we provide as quiet and as undisturbed of an environment for all the students testing that we possibly can.
You may bring your child into the cafeteria before school for drop off as always, however, we do need to ask you to then leave. We are asking that you not escort your child to class, regardless of the grade level, for those three days. We will not be able to allow any visitors at lunch, or in the classrooms those days as well. (You may need to prepare your child for this prior to school on those days.) If you need to pick your child up during the day for any reason, please come directly to the office and we will then send for your child. In addition, if you do have a student in third, fourth, or fifth grade, please do not schedule any appointments during the school day for these dates. Dismissal will go on as normal.

Box Tops Collection Time
It is that time again, time to collect Box Tops for Education! Attached in the email is the sheet that went home last week in the Thursday folders, we also have extras available in the office. We will be collecting box tops until May 18th and the top three classes with the most turned in will earn a Popsicle party.
Send in all the box tops you have even if they don’t fill up a sheet. If you have a large number of box tops you can turn them in using a Ziploc bag. Please be sure to put your teacher’s name on the bag or sheet you turn in. Ten box tops are worth $1 and last year we earned over $1,000 for our school so each Box Top for Education counts and they add up!
