Mrs. Eske's Team: Building Leaders
4th Grade Newsletter * Week of August 22-26
From the Desk of Mrs. Eske:
Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year, friends of fourth grade!!! I am so happy to have an opportunity to share this school year with you; learning, living, and leading together!!!
Learn, Live, Lead! That is our school theme!!
This year is an exciting year at Jeffries Elementary as we will be gearing up for YEAR 2 of IGNiTE!!! An informational packet was sent home to every child in grades 3-5, explaining this teaching and learning initiative. Every student in grades 3-5 will be getting a Chromebook to use during the learning day, but also as a tool to take home at night. These devices are AMAZING and I highly encourage you to read more about the devices, optional damage waiver, and device care and Internet connectivity at this link!!! http://jeffries.spsk12.org/files/_TCJ2t_/52d6759855fcf2813745a49013852ec4/Jeffries_3-5th_Grade_Parent_IGNiTE_Informational_Packet_Updated.pdf
In addition, if you haven't had an opportunity to check out Dr. Cooper's Back to School Newsletter, on our Jeffries Web site, please do so at this link.http://jeffries.spsk12.org/files/_SdA3m_/735a9270c35586e83745a49013852ec4/Jefffries_Back_to_School_Parent_Letter_2016-2017_updated.pdf
Thanks so much and I look forward to an amazing year in 4th GRADE and at Jeffries!!

Building LEADERS one subject at a time!
This past week we had the opportunity to participate in a variety of class-building and team building activities. We played a variety of "Minute-To-Win-It" style games, participated in several "Get-to-Know-You" activities, and had fun with our new flexible seating options. We discussed routines, procedures, expectations, our classroom behavior clip chart, and our nonverbal class "Quiet" signals. Students are adjusting very well to not having desks and have done very well choosing "just right" fits, so that they will have the most successful learning environment possible!
This week we will continue setting expectations, practicing procedures, and establishing routines. We will create our norms, classroom mission statement, go through the steps for emergency safety drills, and begin reading, writing, and math curriculum. See below for more information on our subject area topics.
Reading: First 20 Days-Setting Up Reader's Workshop
Math: Place Value
Writing: Thinking Stems
It is going to be an AWESOME Week! I can't wait for us to get started!!
