4.3 Solving Inequalites

Using multiplication and division

Solving One Step Inequalities with Multiplication and Division

Goal - To get variable alone on the left side of the inequality

If your variable is on the right -
  • Move the variable to the left side by switching the variable with everything that is currently on the left.
  • Flip your sign

Once your variable is on the left

  • Use inverse operations to undo the operation in the original inequality
  • If given multiplication, undo with division - If given division, undo with multiplication make sure to use the same sign as the number with the variable,
  • Did you multiply or divide by a negative?? If so - FLIP YOUR SIGN
  • Graph your answer - see 4.1 if you need a refresher on how to do this!
