The Parsons Happenings
October 7, 2020
Please use the COVID-19 Morning Checklist to help reduce the spread of Covid-19. Please continue to follow the guidelines each morning when sending your 'in person' student to school. We have seen a slight increase of cases in Gwinnett and we want to make sure we are ALL doing our part.
Each school in our district has a trained Health Response Team (HRT Team). If a suspected case of Covid is reported at our school, this team follows set guidelines. Please be assured that you will be contacted by an HRT member if your child has been identified as 'close contact' to someone in our school who has tested positive for Covid-19.
The most important thing we can do is continue to wear our masks, practice social distancing, and wash hands regularly. We are #STRONGERTOGETHER when we all do our part.

Parsons Cubs,
Our PTA is excited that October is Bullying Prevention Month. Do you know what bully behavior is? Bully behavior is when someone is being hurt either by words or actions on purpose, usually more than once, feels bad because of it, and has a hard time stopping what is happening to them. We want each of our Parsons Cubs to be a kid against bully behavior.
So we are asking each of you to take one or both of our Stop Bullying Challenges.
Challenge #1 - Answer a question about bully behavior that will be placed on our Unity Tree. This week’s question is, how can you support a friend/peer who is being bullied?
Challenge #2 - Watch a Brainpop video about bullying, take the quiz for that video, and then go to a website to confirm you took the video (see flyer attached for details).
The challenges will be in our Parsons newsletters every Friday. So ask your parents to help you sign up for the challenges and submit your response. We will be giving out some really cool prizes every Friday, so be sure to take the challenge by Wednesday of each week.
Thanks for being a Parsons Cub against bully behavior!

Student Engagement Survey: Grades 3-5
This year's survey will provide us with current data but it will also allow us to compare student engagement from this year to last year. Our students in grades 3-5, digital and in person, will be completing the survey in the upcoming weeks with their teacher.
*Last year's average Student Engagement Instrument Composite Score for Parsons ES was 4.25, which was higher than the GCPS average of 4.24.

Important Reminders for Online Learners
- It is an expectation that all digital students attend all classroom Zoom meetings.
- Digital Learners should follow the Digital Lesson Plans for each day, complete all assignments, and submit the assignments on time for each lesson.
- Students should have their cameras turned on when possible. This is very helpful to the teacher and helps build a classroom community.
- Active participation in all Zoom lessons helps students actively learn.
- Please follow the daily schedule on the Digital Lesson Plan for each day.
- Please be on time for all Zoom Meetings.
- Sometimes, especially for our younger students, parents or caregivers may need to assist our younger students with sticking to the schedule and submitting/uploading assignments.
Media Center Information
Are you ready for some books? If you didn't come for Media Center Curbside Checkout this week, you can come next week. You now access the Media Catalog through the icon on the eCLASS landing page. All you have to do is place your books on hold by midnight this Sunday and you can pick up your books during our curbside pickup times in the Car Rider Lane. See the flyer for more details including the days and times for your pickup. Hope to see you next week to get new books!
Parsons School-Wide Reading Program
How to register for the Parsons Reading Challenge
Did you know you have to register for the Parsons Reading Challenge each year just like you register for the Summer Reading Program? You also need to change your homeroom teacher's name in the name field and your new grade level. You already have an account. Your username is your student number, and your PIN is your 4-digit birthday. You have until the end of March to complete the program. You need to enter at least 2500 minutes to earn the reward in the spring. There are monthly competitions along the way. You can earn a badge just by registering and another badge by editing your profile following the directions in the video. Let's get reading, Parsons! Click here to sign in. Beanstack

We will have many options for you to shop including Sidewalk Shopping in the Car Rider Lane on Wednesday, October 21 from 10AM - 6PM (except during Early Release dismissal) for all our parents, students, and digital learners. You can shop online from Scholastic and have the books delivered to your home, you can shop using the flyer or Google Form and have books ready to pick up at our regular Curbside Checkout or delivered to your child's classroom, and your child can shop in person if they are currently at school. We will be accepting a check made payable to Scholastic Book Fair for the exact amount, a credit card on October 21st from a parent/guardian, and a Scholastic eWallet (you can load an amount with your credit card at home). Unfortunately, we will not be accepting cash at this Book Fair. Details and links are all in the Parent Letter. We hope you can get some great books at the Book Fair because Reading Can Take You Anywhere!
