A Note from Mr. Nieslanik
Skyhawks:
Here we are at the end of the first quarter. It is amazing, for we are already a quarter of the way through the school year. We leave October and enter November with our volleyball team ranked #1 in state and going onto the second round of the playoffs on Saturday, October 28th, our football team will be entering playoffs on Friday, November 3rd, and boy's water polo on Saturday, November 4th. The marching band and ensemble have been representing Southridge very well over the past several weeks in competitions. In addition, we held our first choir concert on Thursday, October 26th. Avance, Concert Choir, Men's Choir, and Women's Choir all performed beautifully and there was a moment during the Concert Choir's performance of "It Takes a Village" that I wiped away a tear of joy and contentment.
It truly does take a village, and we ask for your partnership in ensuring that our students are attending regularly and completing the necessary work to be academically successful. We believe that 100% of students will graduate and that doors will be open for all, but a focus on work, dedication and thoughtfulness will be needed to be successful. Please help us to ensure that you student is attending school regularly. If you need a teacher, counselor or administrator for support, you can contact anyone at <first name_last name@beaverton.k12.or.us>.
Next week I am off to a national dual language conference in New Mexico with four of our teachers. As a team we are working to ensure that we create, maintain, and build a top-notch dual language program where our students are able to walk out of high school truly bi-literate and receive the State of Oregon's Seal of Bi-literacy. I am looking forward to this learning opportunity.
As always, go Hawks!
Until next time,
David
SRHS Volleyball - Metro Champs!
Congratulations to the SRHS Volleyball Team - - Metro League Champs!!
They are now on their way to the State title. On Wednesday, the girls won their 1st round in the State Playoffs!
The 2nd round match is at SRHS against Oregon City, Saturday, Oct. 28 at 6pm. Plan to bring the whole family to cheer on our Championship Volleyball team!
Doors open at 5pm. $4 for students and $5 for adults.
Canvas for Parents
Even though it is optional, many SRHS teachers are using the parent observer feature on Canvas. Some teachers may continue to use their current communication system. ParentVue is still available to see attendance, grades and other valuable information.
*To create a Canvas parent account, you will need your student’s Beaverton School District username and password.
-You must use a computer, not a mobile device such as a cell phone or tablet.
-If you are a teacher in the Beaverton School District you will want to use a personal email account and personal device when establishing your parent account.
Attendance Policies: Checking In/Out
If your student will be arriving late or needs to leave midday:
SEND A NOTE
-Student brings the note to the Attendance Desk BEFORE the time they need to leave. They will be given a Flight Pass with the pre-excused release time. They show the Flight Pass to the teacher at the beginning of the class they need to leave and can quietly leave class when its time.
BONUS: The Flight Pass allows students to leave and meet their parent/guardian out front. Parents/guardians do not need to come inside to pick up the student.
-Students who arrive late without a note will report directly to class.
CALL THE 24 HR ATTENDANCE HOTLINE (503-356-2891)
-Students arriving late or leaving early must stop by the Attendance Desk to pick up their Flight Pass. Even if parents call to release students early, students will not be excused until they check out at the Attendance Desk. We need to know the student is leaving the building as planned. If a student is ill, they must report to the health room. If they need to go home, someone will speak to a parent/guardian before a student will be allowed to leave the building.

All students and staff performed “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” - a quake-safe action designed to protect lives and prevent injuries from falling furniture and flying objects that can become projectiles during ground shaking.
Take a look at the video series 2 Weeks Ready, created by the Oregon Office of Emergency Management for more tips on preparing yourself and your family for disaster.

Volunteer Corner
SRHS Volunteers Rock!! We love and appreciate our SRHS volunteers. Thank you for all the time you have donated to make our school great!
Apply for your BSD background check so you can volunteer and be part of our amazing Southridge community.
All BSD volunteers must be background checked for the safety of our student community. If you are planning on helping in any capacity at Southridge such as PTO sponsored events, drama, band, sports or color guard, or you could be asked to chaperone a future field trip or help with a classroom activity, you will want to be cleared and free to say, 'Yes. I would love to help.'
It only takes a minute to develop a profile and background check in our new volunteer system MyVolunteerPage. You may do this by going to the Southridge website at beaverton.k12.or.us/schools/Southridge, click on "Volunteer and Background Check Application" on the bottom left and follow the instructions.
You will be notified when you are cleared to volunteer.
Thanks again for all you do for Southridge.
Fall Blood Drive
More than 80% of Blood Drive donations come from high schools! Thank you to all the donors!!
