Les nouvelles de Beairsto
Septembre 2022
Welcome!!! Bienvenue!
Bonjour lovely Beairsto community,
We hope families have had a chance to enjoy the beautiful lakes, trails and mountains over the summer. We are fortunate to live, work and play in the unceded sylix territory. We look forward to reconnecting with our families and hearing about adventures when we see you in the next few weeks!
We are getting ready for the new school year. Custodians have been working hard during the summer and teachers have been popping in over their break to get their classes ready for the new year!!! yay!!! Our garden is looking amazing! The trees are also still doing great thanks to the families who watered them over the summer! MERCI
We look forward to welcoming new students and families – our new Beairsto coyotes! Welcome to our pack! Please read further in the newsletter for details regarding the first few days of school.
School supply lists and the bell schedule can be found on the Ecole Beairsto website : https://sd22.bc.ca/beairsto/ Please do not send grade one students with all their supplies until the teacher asks for them.
On Tuesday afternoon (Sept 6th), staff will spend time going over class configurations and fine tuning any changes from the summer. Teachers will then send out emails welcoming students to their new class. Please check junk mail or email myself or Mme Champion if you have not received anything by early evening. If for some reason your child does not know who their teacher is we will be able to help in the morning upon arrival and guide them to the correct spot as there will be staff outside helping.
Please remember to check out our ecole Beairsto website and facebook page and our Pac Facebook page ... you can find pictures from the school and weekly updates there :) - The links are at the end of this newsletter.
Safety is always important in our district and continues to remain a focus as we return to school. You are welcome to read about covid safety protocols at the school district 22 website under the covid tab.
Please let us know if we can support in any way. Hope you enjoy your last days of summer break and we look forward to seeing you soon.
Bonne année!

DROP-OFF ETIQUETTE
Some tips to help our drop off zone work better!
Please pull up to the farthest possible spot when picking up or dropping off your child!
Drop off your child in the drop off zone – NOT THE PARKING LOT! (staff need these spots)
The pick-up or drop off zone is a 3-5 minute zone – NOT a parking lot
If your child is not waiting for you please do a loop and let other parents enter the drop off zone!!
Park elsewhere and walk over for the pick up
If we all work together this could be the best school drop off in town
Please Be kind, patient and calm
First week back - September 2022
First day – Tuesday September 6th 8:45 – 11:45
Busses run 3 hours early.
Students return to their last year classroom for the morning. We have found that this really helps to build community and share with their previous teacher and classmates anything that happened over the summer. The bell goes at 8:45 in the morning – students line up in the same spots as last year when the bell rings. New students and new grade ones go to the gym.
How do I know what class my child will be in?
Teachers will send out emails to the families to welcome them to their new class of 2022-2023 as soon as they can. Staff work on reviewing classes in the afternoon of this first day.
Day two: Wednesday September 7th 2021 - 8:45 - 2:45 - full day
Staff help children get to their new class lineups. Children go to their new class lineups with their backpacks and can then play while waiting. School runs a full day until 2:45.
Thursday and Friday are days that we get back in the swing of things with children in their classes for the full days.
Families New To Beairsto and New Grade one important information
During the week of August 29th - September 2nd we are happy to offer tours to any families who are feeling they need a tour to help their child feel comfortable with their new school. Please email myself or Mme Champion and we can organise this.
On Tuesday the 6th of September we are going to meet our new grade one students in the gym. They will be returned to this spot by 11:45, the end of the first day, and go to where they need to at that point. Please send instructions with your child so they know what to do and we can help them if you are not picking them up. During this morning the grade ones will have some activities with our Gym teacher, our Beaux-arts teacher and our teacher librarian. There will be some other fun surprises along the way to help them get to know the school and different teachers. The children who are not in grade one but new to Beairsto will be integrated with their grade group as soon as possible in the morning - please have them meet us in the gym too!
Please do not send young students with school supplies on the first days of school. Children do not need school supplies on the first day but should have a snack and expect to have some fun :)
If any of your grade one children are taking the bus for the first time this week please make sure that they are comfortable with their ride and their route. We do encourage children, when possible to wait until a few days in before going on the bus if they are new to the system or have transfers they are unsure of. However we do understand that sometimes they need to start on the first day. Please send a clear note with after school directions that your child can share with adults to enable us to help them. The first week can be a little busy with many situations. We do have bus supervisors to help students - It helps us if you have tags on backpacks and a clear plan of what your child is doing at the end of each day - especially in the first week. Thank you for your support and help in this:)
