Faculty Spotlight: Ms. Galindo
Rhodes Librarian, Ms. Galindo is in the Spotlight!
Ms. Galindo earned her bachelor degree from Incarnate Word University and earned a masters degree from Our Lady of The Lake University. Ms. Galindo's hobbies are baking and water aerobics.
Ms. Galindo taught first grade and also taught Special Education before becoming a librarian. She wanted to become a librarian because she enjoys working with large groups of students than just teaching to a smaller group when she taught in the classroom. Ms. Galindo also added that she enjoys doing research and wanted to share that skill with students.
After graduating high school, Ms. Galindo didn't know what to major in. She knew she wanted to go to college, but wasn't quite sure what path to take for a career. Fate had a different plan for Ms. Galindo, when enrolling at San Antonio College, she accidentally signed up for a class working with a child with special needs. After that profound experience, is when she fell in love with teaching.
When asked what was the most challenging part of being a middle school librarian she states, "Not always having enough time to get everything done."
Ms. Galindo had some interesting points about her view of technology, "Technology Is Growing every day. The use of technology that is being used is great! However, technology is fast and constantly changing. The information that is on the Internet is current, but we have to be careful when we are researching and looking up information because nowadays anybody can post anything on the Internet and call it real. So we have to be careful with what we read when we use our information for projects as well as what we use to create projects. Although I love how technology is advancing, at the same time there is nothing like holding a book in your hands and reading it!"
Wildcat of the Month: Eben Gonzales
I was given the opportunity to interview my friend, Eben Gonzales. Eben was nominated to be Wildcat of the Month in the first issue of The Paw Print. Eben Gonzales holds the title of Tech Support. According to Eben, Tech Support is a class where students are trained to fix iPads and assist other students with resolving their iPad technical issues. I asked Eben what he liked best about being in Tech Support and he stated, "I like to help other students with their iPads and it feels good when I accomplish a task with helping fellow classmates." Eben really enjoys his job as a Tech Support. He also enjoys using iPads for school work because it is an easy way to access any assignment that needs to be completed at home and in class.

Breast Cancer Awareness
October is breast cancer awareness month. Each year in the United States more than 240,000 women get breast cancer and more than 40,000 women die from the disease. Men also get breast cancer, but it’s not very common. Less than 1% of men develop breast cancer.
Why did breast cancer awareness start? The yearly campaign intends to educate people about the importance of early screening. The international health campaign was organized by major breast cancer charities and is observed every year in October to increase awareness of the disease.

WILDCAT COUNTRY: Sports
Let the rivalry begin! Wildcats face Tafolla Toros on the football field. The game didn't end as we have hoped against Tafolla Toros. Unfortunately, the Wildcats lost 0-44, but it was long hard fought game for both teams. This is a hard loss because Tafolla Toros has always been a rival, but we were always taught, "You practice how you play", but this is only the beginning of our football journey.
For eighth graders, this season was exciting and bittersweet because this will be the last time to play football as a Wildcat. It has been more than learning the game of football this season, it has also been a life lesson to all players. Our coaches worked very hard to teach us the importance of hard work, determination, and discipline. We are thankful to have great coaches at Rhodes.
Sports Update:
Rhodes Middle School played at Alamo Stadium on Saturday, October 13th, 2018. It was the last game of the season against the Longfellow Spartans. After eight games the Wildcats got their first win 33-6 and the B team won 27-0. It was an awesome season for both 7th and 8th-grade football players. This experience has taught us all how to play as a TEAM!

Lady Wildcats: Volleyball
"Success isn’t given. It’s earned. On the field, in the field, in the gym. With blood, sweat, and the occasional tear." ~Dr. Ann Quinn
A Player's Perspective:
This season has been very challenging for the Lady Wildcats. Our 8th grade A team had the talent, but we struggled this season. Even with our challenges, our season was incredible because we learned a great deal from this experience. We won a scrimmage game against the Irving Rams and played against YWLA which the score was 2-0. We had an unforgettable season and hope to see each other in the future. “Once A Wildcat Always A Wildcat”.

OPINION
HAUNTED HOUSE: EXPERIENCE
Halloween has many haunted houses across the city and for all age groups. The haunted house that gave me a real fright is "Buried Alive" at Fiesta Texas. I ranked it as number one compared to the others at the theme park.
Number 1: BURIED ALIVE
Now, this haunted house earns the number one spot because it scared the living daylights out of me! When I walked into this creepy house, it was very dark and hard to see. I saw strange beings with axes that would continuously bang forcibly on the floor. The noise was so loud it would make me jump each time I heard it. Haunted House employees lead my family and me into an elevator which would shake back and forth creating a dizziness that was hard for to recover from. Once I got out of the elevator, I noticed dead bodies everywhere (not real ones of course) and scary actors would jump out to scare people as they walked by. Near the exit of the haunted house, a well known spooky character, the nun, was standing at the exit waiting to scream into the faces of the unexpected. A fright of all frights!
