Learning About The Eclipse
Text Review
No School on April 8th Due to Solar Eclipse
Dear Parents & Families,
We are writing to inform you of an upcoming amendment to the 2023-2024 academic calendar for Lago Vista ISD. After discussions with Lago Vista ISD staff and city officials, Lago Vista ISD has decided to close for staff and students on Monday, April 8, 2024. This day will not be made up.
On April 8th, the residents of Lago Vista ISD will be in the path of totality for a total solar eclipse. It will be the last total solar eclipse visible from the contiguous United States until 2044. Local officials are planning for a significant number of visitors to flock to our area in order to witness this extraordinary phenomenon. We understand that this surge in visitors may likely put a strain on local infrastructure and resources, possibly impacting school operations.
This decision stems from our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our students and staff during this rare celestial event. We understand that this adjustment may require rearranging schedules and arrangements for childcare. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding as we prioritize the safety of our school community.
Although the District will be closed on April 8th, we do want to emphasize that a solar eclipse of this nature is a unique educational experience that we hope will foster a sense of wonder and curiosity about the universe. Lago Vista ISD students will be provided with classroom instructional activities leading up to this event and will also be provided with one pair of safety glasses to bring home.
Here are a few resources to help our parents and families prepare to safely experience this once in a lifetime event.

Ascender Parent Portal
If you have received an email from our registrar asking you to complete your child(ren)'s registration in your portal account, please try to have this done as soon as possible. If your child's registration is not complete, your child may be delayed in signing up for their next year courses. Each year you are required to re-register your child(ren) in the district. The state requires the district to collect this information each year.
Spring Reminders
With spring activities and school functions ramping up, we want to remind you to make sure that you check in through the Raptor system. That includes dropping off lunch - those must be delivered to the front office, NOT hand delivered to your student on the way to the cafeteria. Also - Door Dash(or any food delivery service, including Dominos Pizza) will be turned away and not delivered. Food must be delivered by a parent/guardian for your student only - not for their friends.
Also, if you wish to volunteer in anyway we ask that you follow all required procedures. Email me with any questions - thank you for your support!

Vaping = DAEP
HB 114 makes offenses involving the possession and/or or use of vapes a mandatory DAEP offense. School districts will now be required to place all students who are caught in possession and/or or using vapes (of any kind – not just those with drugs) into their DAEP.
Please share this with your children - it's just not worth it!
