Tashua Family Weekly Update
Mrs. Neumeyer, Principal
November 5, 2021
Dear Tashua Families,
As we kick off the month of November, we are quickly reminded it won’t be long before we are into the hustle and bustle of the holiday season! With this in mind, we will be paying close attention to our school-wide goal of social-emotional learning.
With the increased amount of stress and anxiety students are experiencing as young children, we strongly feel it is important to take the time to help our students recognize the warning signs of stress and to develop coping strategies to find ways to relax and encounter anxiety provoking situations with a positive mindset.
Yesterday, we celebrated National Stress Awareness Day. Throughout the entire school day, the students and staff members participated in activities to help them learn strategies for coping with stress. You can access the link below to view the activities that were planned for the students:
It is our goal to help students recognize the importance of finding time to not only work hard, but to also enjoy themselves and find ways to relax and deal with stress and anxiety.
As a family, we encourage you to create a Gratitude Tree at home together. This could be a discussion or you could create your own visual at home. Completing this activity would provide your family the opportunity to gain an appreciation of what you are grateful for and to express gratitude toward others. If you complete this activity, please send me some pictures! I would be happy to post them in my newsletter next week.
In celebration of Veterans Day, the students will be writing letters to Veterans that will be delivered to the VA Hospital in West Haven. In addition, we are collecting any unopened/unwanted Halloween candy to be donated and delivered with our letters. Please have your child bring any candy you wish to donate to school in a sealed zip-lock bag, marked Veteran donation. All donations are due by Wednesday, November 10th.
Further, we will be creating a bulletin board with pictures and brief descriptions of the honored Veterans. If you would like to recognize a current service member or Veteran, you may send in a picture with the name, location and military branch of service. An example with a template in Google Documents is below:
We thank you for joining us in celebrating those who have served our country!
Congratulations goes out the following students who are being recognized this month on the Principal's Proud Board for their outstanding effort!
