McKay High Weekly Newsletter
November 7 -- 11
Message from the Admin Team
Friendly Greetings McKay High School community, this weeks message is an important one. As we have began to settle into the school year we would like to make you aware of an issue facing the school, and make a simple request. Please bring your students to school on time. Since September 19th, our students have had nearly 15,000 tardies, and 1,742 students have at least 1 unexcused absence. This equates to 156,780 hours of lost instructional time. This equates to less students passing classes, higher dropout rates, and a lower graduation percentage for McKay. We desperately need your support in helping EVERY student attend EVERY day, EVERY class, ON TIME. A positive is that our Freshman’s average attendance is 84%, which is leading the way for all grades. Remember that one day of lost instruction equates to 3 days of school.

The K-12 COVID-19 Weekly Screening Program is a free and optional program for students to screen for COVID-19 with a saliva sample. You can opt-in and opt-out at any time, consent forms are available in multiple languages. Participation is not required each week but it is strongly encouraged. By screening for COVID-19 weekly we are able to reduce outbreaks by catching positive cases early, especially for asymptomatic individuals. By doing this, we can keep schools open, children in school, and parents in work.
