Coronavirus (COVID-19) update: March 20, 2020

As the situation with the coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to evolve, we know there are ongoing questions about the school closure and our plans for distance learning.

The information in this message is the most current that we have at this time. Please know that as we have new information, we will continue to share it with the community and encourage you to visit www.moundsviewschools.org/coronavirus for FAQs, resources and regular updates. If you have an additional question, you can fill out a contact form here.

Distance learning

Consistent with the Governor’s guidance, District staff are working to create plans for distance learning now through the end of the statewide closure on Friday, March 27. While some services such as student meals and childcare are already in place, no student learning is expected to occur until Monday, March 30. Currently, students are scheduled to return to school March 30. If this changes and schools remain closed, the District will be prepared to begin distance learning at that time.

Plans for distance learning are coming together and schools will share information with parents as soon as possible. The District, along with your child’s school, will send updates and regularly update our distance learning page with plans and procedures.

Technology

Chromebooks will be distributed to all students in grades one through 12 over the next week. You can read more about Chromebooks and how they will be used here.

  • High school and middle school students will follow a pick-up schedule as identified by each building.
  • Elementary students (grades one through five) will pick up devices when they pick up other school supplies and tools next week.

Watch for information from each building for pick-up dates, times and instructions. If internet access is an issue, click here to see options for low- or no-cost access.

Item and medication pick-up

We realize that students may have left medications or other items at school that they wish to retrieve. Watch for additional information coming directly from your child's school about building hours for the pick-up of items and medication starting next week. We urge you to have limited interactions, practice social distancing and to stay in the building only as long as necessary, to stay aligned with current CDC guidelines.

Meals for students

Starting Monday, March 23, meals are available for any child under 18 years old who needs breakfast or lunch during the school closure. Meals will be distributed curbside at the main entrance of Pinewood Elementary, Snail Lake Education Center, Highview Middle School and Edgewood Middle School between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. daily. Times and locations will be reviewed based on student need. Parents/guardians are asked to accompany their student(s) to pick-up a grab-and-go lunch and breakfast for the following morning.

If there are any barriers that prevent you from picking up a meal at one of these locations, please fill out this form.

District events and activities

During the statewide school closure and potentially beyond, all co-curricular activities are cancelled and/or postponed indefinitely. This includes sporting events, plays, Community Education activities, student clubs, etc.

Testing

All student testing has also been postponed, including the District-wide ACT test for juniors. We are working with ACT to rescheduled this exam for a later date.

College Board is working to provide a way that students can participate in AP exams. As the College Board AP exam administration plan becomes more clear, students registered for AP exams will receive information in emails from aptesting@moundsviewschools.org. Please consult the District assessment webpage for more information.
