Principal's Note
I hope this message finds you well as we step into the month of February. I want to express my sincere gratitude to each and every one of you for your resilience and understanding throughout the challenges we faced in January. Despite the disruptions caused by snow days, bus delays, and four-day weeks, your support and cooperation have been invaluable.
Looking ahead, February holds exciting opportunities for us to engage in meaningful discussions about your child's progress. Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for Wednesday, February 21st, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. This will be the second conference of the academic year, and while it may not be necessary for every family to attend, we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to connect with your child's teacher.
Of course, should you have any questions or concerns before or after the scheduled conference date, our doors are always open. You are welcome to request a meeting with your child's teacher at any time. Your involvement in your child's education is crucial, and we appreciate the collaborative effort between home and school.

Bus Driver Appreciation Week
Bus driver appreciation week is February 12-16th. More than 15,000 school bus drivers in the state of Wisconsin travel more that 82 million miles a year transporting more than 600,000 students to and from school every day. Join us in thanking these dedicated drivers!
In addition, please make sure that you are following bus safety laws by stopping behind a bus that is stopped with it's stop sign out.

Forward Exam Testing
The state of Wisconsin will be again participating in the Forward Exam this year. The window for testing is March 18 - April 26. Specific testing dates for students in grades 3-6 will be shared in the March newsletter. It is important that students are present on testing dates. Your cooperation is appreciated to avoid scheduling vacations or appointments on these days.
Camp Invention 2024
Spark your child’s curiosity and creativity with our all-new Camp Invention® program, Illuminate! At Rolling Hills Elementary from July 15 to July 19, campers going into grades 1-6 will collaborate with friends to take on fun, hands-on STEM challenges. From designing a light-up ball game to tackling global water challenges to starring in a prototyping game show, each experience adds up to an imagination-stretching, confidence-boosting summer. VISION & HEARING SCREEN TIME!
Vision and hearing screens will take place at your child’s school in February. First graders will receive both vision and hearing screenings, and kindergarten, third and fifth graders will receive vision screening.
Your child will receive a copy of the screening results. The form will indicate if no further evaluation is needed or if follow up is recommended with a Physician, Optometrist, or Audiologist for further evaluation. Results will be documented in your child’s school health record and available to parent/guardian upon request.
If you have a child in second, fourth, and sixth grade, and feel they would benefit from a vision or hearing screen at this time, please contact your child’s school health assistant to request a vision or hearing screen for your child. If you would prefer not to have your child screened at this time, please contact your child’s school health assistant.
Screening will be done on Thursday, February 8th at Prairie View.
Preschool Screening
Do you have concerns about your child’s development?
The Mukwonago Area School District will conduct preschool screening for children between the ages of 3-5 years old, or children not attending 5 year old kindergarten. Children must be residents of Mukwonago. If you have concerns about your child's development, you are encouraged to register. District staff will screen your child in the areas of cognitive development, personal/social skills, fine motor (small muscle), gross motor (large muscle), adaptive, speech/language, hearing, and vision. This screening is NOT 4K or 5K kindergarten screening. There is no cost, and takes approximately 45 minutes.

Free and Reduced Lunch Program
If at any time during the school year you have a change in your household income (i.e. due to a
change in job or marital status,) you may still apply for free or reduced-price school lunches. The
information you provide on your application will be used to determine eligibility only. If you have any questions, please contact Pam Harris, District Food Service Supervisor at 363-6200 ext. 25601.
Intra-District Transfer Requests
Elementary schools are accepting intra-district transfer requests. Intra-district transfers are requests for a district resident student to attend a Mukwonago Area School District elementary school outside his or her attendance area.
Parents desiring a transfer for their son or daughter must complete a form and submit to the building principal of their current home school. Home school principals will notify the requested school of transfer papers. Transportation to attend a school outside of the home area is the responsibility of the parent.
Students who are already attending a school as an intra-district transfer do not need to re-apply; however, new family members would need to do so. If there are more requests than seats, students will be selected on a lottery basis. See School Board Policy IEB for the full set of criteria governing intra-district transfers.
Early Entrance to 5K
The Mukwonago Area School District is accepting applications for early entrance to Kindergarten through March 1, 2024. Early entrance evaluations will be conducted for children who are not 5 years old by September 1, 2024, but will be 5 years old by October 1, 2024. The child must meet criteria set by the district in the areas of social, emotional, academic, and intellectual levels. More information can be found on the district website (Board Policy 5112).
Parents must request an application stating the child’s name, date of birth, parent name, address, phone number and email address BY MARCH 1, 2024 to: The Mukwonago Area School District-Student Services Department at 385 E Veterans Way, Mukwonago WI 53149, or via email to berkagi@masd.k12.wi.us.
School Counselor Note
Dear Families,

February 11th-17th is Random Acts of Kindness Week. During this week, schools and families across the country will participate in spreading kindness through word and action. Kindness not only makes our world a better place, but it is also teachable, contagious, and has scientifically proven benefits! Some of these benefits include: increase in oxytocin (the “love hormone”) and serotonin, more energy, higher rates of overall happiness, and increase in lifespan. Showing kindness also decreases stress, anxiety, and high blood pressure.
During the month of February, students are encouraged to participate in showing random acts of kindness at school, at home, and in the community. Some words that are also connected to kindness are: caring, compassion, gratitude, helpfulness, perseverance, respect, and responsibility. Talking with your student about these words and what it means to be kind can encourage him or her to make smart and considerate choices in daily interactions with others.
If you are looking for ways to spread kindness here are some ideas:
Compliment someone on an ability or character trait
Make a handmade card for a neighbor, teacher, or friend
Start a piggy bank to raise money for a cause
Send a postcard
Deliver baked goods to someone
Donate clothes or toys
Do a chore or classroom job without being asked
Send someone a care package
Donate books to the library
Share an inspirational quote with someone who needs it
We are enjoying talking to your student(s) about how to spread kindness at home and school!
PVES PTO
A great way to learn more about Prairie View, connect with parents, and get involved is to attend a PTO meeting. The goal of the PTO is to support students and teachers as well as build a strong "school-family-community" connection.
