The Secret Life of Bees
Sue Monk Kidd
Want a fantastic read? Then check out the book The Secret Life of Bees. It is set in South Carolina in 1964. It focuses on Lily, a girl on the run from a problem so big she can barely escape it. She, and her "stand in mother" Rosaleen find refuge in the small town of Tiburon when they are taken in by three remarkable sisters, who are black beekeepers. While Lily learns about the world of bees and honey, she also learns about the power of love.
The reader becomes involved with the amazing characters and learns more about the violent times of the Civil Rights Movement in the South. There is also a movie based on this book, starring Dakota Fanning. Typically the movie does not do the book justice, but in this case both are top notch! So if you want a book that draws you into the life and times of the character, give The Secret Life of Bees a peek!

This goes down as one of my top ten favorite books!
This is Lily with the sisters, August, June & May
The movie accurately portrayed the plotline of the book.
This is where Lily is learning the art of bee keeping.
