Balclutha Primary School - T1 Wk 3
Newsletter 19th February 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia Ora e te whānau,
Welcome to week 3 of the term. I hope you are all enjoying our new look newsletter.
This has certainly been an unsettled week as we moved up to Alert Level 2 on Monday, then back to Alert Level 1 on Thursday. A huge thank you to everyone in our school community for being so vigilant with the sign in procedures for Level 2. Even though we are now back in Level 1, we would still appreciate parents signing in when they come on site.
Rest assured that we do have plans in place to ensure a smooth transition from school to home learning should there be a change of alert levels any time in the future.
Next Monday we will be holding our Balclutha Primary School athletics. It would be wonderful to see parents and caregivers join us on Monday to support all our athletes. A timetable for the day and more information is later in the newsletter. Feel free to come along in your child's house colours to join in the fun and friendly competition.
A reminder that our PTA has it's first meeting next week. This is a wonderful proactive group who do a lot to support the teaching and learning at our school. This is a great opportunity to meet some other parents and help support our school.
Have a great weekend and I look forward to seeing some of you on Monday at our athletics day.
Ngā mihi nui,
Vicki Neave

Truck Road Safety Visit to Balclutha
Clutha District Council road safety coordinator, Rachel Harrison, has organised the Truck Road Safety Roadshow to visit the Clutha District.
The New Zealand Trucking Association is a non for profit organisation and has members throughout New Zealand. Members are companies that own and run trucks up, down and around New Zealand. They are very passionate about road safety. With the Industry’s help they have managed to get sponsorship for over $1,000,000 to put the truck and trailer on the road with one view and that is to save lives.
Our whole programme is to raise awareness and give the students, parents, teachers and the community a real life experience that they normally would not get. Learning some hot tips on how to share the road safely with big trucks and also experience what a driver can and can’t see. It’s a fun engaging program and your students will get some resource to take away and home so that they become our teachers. Our main points are;
- Trucks are big and heavy and take a long time to stop
- Trucks have blind zones
- Trucks needs space to turn and stop quickly
For more information on their Open Night see the flyer on the left or visit www.roadsafetytruck.co.nz or their Facebook page.
