A Message from Principal Katherine - Parent Communication
While each program has unique educational and cultural outcomes, all parents on this campus have the shared goals of ensuring their children's health and safety, preparing them for life as productive adults, and teaching cultural values.
Kind, Respectful, Inclusive, Joyful, Resilient
Our school's core values are shared across both programs and were developed by parents, staff, and students from the Mandarin Immersion and Parent Cooperative programs. We teach, practice, and celebrate our core values every day at Orion.
We do this through consistent communication, modeling these values with our students, and calling out actions and words that embody our values.
At times adults may disagree with each other at Orion. Disagreement is healthy and normal in every community. It is important to be kind and respectful when we disagree, in speech or in writing.
We are role models for our children, both as parents and educators. As the educational leader at Orion Alternative School, I support healthy dialogue but I do not support language or behaviors that are not kind or respectful. Language or behaviors that attempt to divide one program against another does not have a place on this campus. Divisive language directed towards families and staff at Orion disrupt the learning environment and safe spaces our community has worked towards cultivating over the past three years. We are here to raise each other in support of all children.
Valentine at Orion
Students can show school spirit by wearing pink, red, or purple.
The RCSD Health and Wellness policy states that no candy, cupcakes, etc are permitted during the school day. A simple card signed by the student is appropriate for the school day. If treats are sent to school we will hold them in the office for a parent to pick up after school.
Orion Students and Staff Celebrate Black History Month
“Black History Month is a time to celebrate the fullness of African American history and culture, but that cannot be contained in one month alone.” Visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture to learn more.
School Site Council
The responsibility of the School Site Council: Review, modify, and evaluate the annual Single Plan for Student Achievement.
