Hopes and Dreams for the Future - Art Show by the SCCOE

With the Presidential Inauguration and the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday at the end of January, we think it is a great time to ask students to share their thoughts about the world ahead of us. As a result, the SCCOE is asking students to create a piece of art that clearly addresses the theme: Hopes and Dreams for the Future.

Submissions are due January 6, 2021, selected pieces will be highlighted on the SCCOE website; as well as, at their Power of Democracy virtual event at the end of January. For more information, visit: https://bit.ly/367TcKa.

Our student's voices are so important!

You’ve all heard the story of Aladdin and the Genie of the lamp. Now you can be a part of the storytelling. This will be a Starting Arts virtual production offered to Oster students. Rehearsals will happen over Zoom. The usual tech week/performance dates will be used to have students create recordings of their part while being guided by the director. Those recordings will be professionally edited into a movie. In May, Starting Arts will host a virtual watch party so that students can invite friends and family (from anywhere!) to see their talent, hard work, and dedication in action! Students will also receive the recording as a souvenir after the watch party. Open to all Oster students in 3rd through 5th grade. Production starts February 3rd, 2021. Visit https://bit.ly/osteraladdin for more information and to register.

Calling all Shutterbugs! The Oster Yearbook team needs your help collecting yearbook photos during this very different school year, so we are introducing our Yearbook Photo Challenge. We will have different themes over the next several months, but our first photo challenge is “My favorite Holiday/Winter Activity.” Think about the things you love to do during this time of the year and take a picture of yourself doing it. Check out the flyer for more details and how to submit your photos.

Year Book Contest Cover

Attention all Oster artists! We invite all students to enter their original artwork into our Yearbook Cover Contest.

Since it is so essential to our learning this year, we have chosen TECHNOLOGY as our theme for the 2020-2021 yearbook. Think about all the ways you use technology, then use your creativity and imagination to incorporate this theme into your cover design. The winning design will be featured on the front cover.

For full details and submission requirements, please see the contest flyer at https://bit.ly/OsterYBContest

Entries are due Friday, December 11.

Education Fund Drive

The latest round of the Education Fund drive runs until the holiday break on December 18. The class with the highest participation will get free pizza!

Each year Oster HSC raises 100% of the funds necessary to support core enrichment programs in areas such as reading, math, music, and science that are not covered by the State or District. Although this school year looks very different, there are several critical programs that need to be funded. First, our upper-grade play structure is in need of replacement, and our goal is to get that taken care of while the students are away from campus. We have also provided each teacher with an additional $100 each for supplemental resources they may need during distance learning. Additionally, because of the COVID crisis, we are not able to hold in-person fundraisers this year, which means your donations are extremely important.

Your direct donation, and any employer match, will help us pay for the student, school, and faculty programs that we have committed to for this school year. Since we fund about $250 per student each year, the suggested donation per student is $250. No matter what you donate, we encourage every family to participate in this critical fund drive.
