Schedule Change Procedure
The deadline to make all class changes was June 1. Students had from February – June to make these decisions. We do the best we can to consider changes when looking at the school as a whole, numbers in classes, potential enrollments, and other personnel matters. Therefore, we will not be making any changes at this time.
- Prior to September 2nd, the only changes considered will be for students who have an ERROR in their schedule.
A scheduling error is
If you do not have a complete schedule or are missing a core class required for graduation
If you are signed up for a class you have already passed.
If you are signed up for two classes at the same time.
If you are signed up for a class you do not have the prerequisite for.
*** Specific teacher requests or requests for a different teacher are not granted.
- From September 3rd to September 6th, we will consider schedule changes on a SPACE AVAILABLE basis only.
- After September 6th, no further schedule changes will be considered until the end of Quarter 1 at which time level changes will be considered.
Virginia Governor's School
Governor’s School is a challenging and enriching Virginia program designed for highly motivated students who are looking for a challenging summer experience. Programs are offered in Visual and Performing Arts, Humanities, Math/Science/Tech, Agriculture, Life Science/Medicine, and Mentorships in Engineering and Life Sciences. The selection process is extremely competitive. Most students selected rank in the top 10% of their class and have scored in the 90th percentile on standardized measures of ability or achievement tests. These residential programs run from late June to late July. Only students who are available during that time frame and whose records match these criteria should apply.
There will be an information session during all lunches on Friday September 20th. SIGN UP in Naviance under College Visits!

Part 2
2020 United States Senate Youth Program
The Virginia Department of Education will select two student delegates to represent Virginia in the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) sponsored by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. Each delegate will receive a $10,000 scholarship and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for the week of March 7-14, 2020.
Each public and private high school may submit up to three applications. Applications will be reviewed and accepted applicants will take the Public Affairs examination. The exam is designed to test knowledge of the United States government, the United States Constitution, American History, and knowledge of public affairs and current events. Completed examinations will be sent to the Virginia Department of Education where they will be scored. The top six candidates will be invited to interview with a panel of judges appointed by the Virginia Department of Education. The panel will consider the examination results, outstanding academic ability, and demonstrated qualities of leadership and community service when making the final selection to represent the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Selected delegates must hold a leadership position in any one of the following student government, civic, or educational organizations during the entire 2019-2020 academic year:
- Student Body president, vice president, secretary, or treasurer
- Class president, vice president, secretary, or treasurer
- Student Council representative
- A National Honor Society officer (including discipline-based Honor Societies such as the National English and Social Studies Honor Societies that include service components)
- Student representative elected or appointed (appointed by a panel, commission, or board) to a local, district, regional, or state-level civic service and/or educational organization approved by the state selection administrator
Participation or holding an officer position in academic clubs and/or educational competition programs/conferences do not qualify a student for USSYP, although many students who qualify participate in these activities.
Each nominee must be a permanent resident of the United States and currently enrolled in a public or private secondary school located in the state in which either one of his or her parents or guardians legally resides. Students from Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) overseas will represent the state(s) in which the parents/guardians are U.S. legal voting residents. Students attending DoDEA schools in the U.S. or students enrolled through U.S. military bases in local schools will represent the state in which their school is located. A student attending a school that is located in a state other than the state of legal residence of either of the student’s parents or guardians is not eligible.
