A newsletter for Walnut Hills High School
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
March 24, 2023
Dear Walnut Hills High School Families:
It is officially spring - and officially the start of spring break! We need this break before our final push for the end of the semester. When we return, we will be gearing up for End of Course testing in April and AP testing in May. There will also be the culminating performances for our fine arts groups, spring sports competitions, and fun events like the Chalk Drawings, Twilight Ball, Frosh, and Prom. And certainly, we will celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2023 in many ways. Calendars are packed for April and May!
So, we hope that you enjoy the week ahead to rest and recharge for the exciting times ahead. Remember, school reopens on Monday, April 3. We know that things get very busy for parents and families in the spring as well. Please continue to check the school’s website and read the Eagle Flyers in the months ahead so that you are aware of all that is happening at Walnut Hills High School.
Sincerely,
John Chambers

Classics Academic Team State Convention Results
The Classics Academic Team, as usual, participated successfully in the Ohio Junior Classical League state convention this past weekend in Columbus. While everybody ended up with multiple individual prizes-- most students won in BOTH academic AND arts categories : ) {see the attachment for All The Details} -- these were The Big Ones:
Intermediate Certamen Team, Eleanor Jackson (8), whose teammates were sadly unable to participate this year, finished 7th in the state, *by herself.*
Upper Certamen Team, led by captain Joshua Lerma, finished 4th; the full team comprises seniors Joshua Lerma, Nicolas Luginbill, juniors Selima Aousheva and Benjamin Krietemeyer, sophomore Jonathan Walker and freshman Devlin Kennedy.
With only 10 students participating (7 of them not currently in Latin classes daily!), Walnut finished 3rd in the state for academics (per capita), 4th for total points per capita and 8th overall (not considering only 10 kiddos).
Junior Selima Aousheva won THREE Best in Show awards, for Latin poetry recitation, English poetry writing, and her mytho-historical illustration of the convention theme "The beginnings of all things are small."
For students who are interested in the academic and arts aspects of the Classical World, team meetings are Tuesdays (membership and projects) and Thursdays (certamen = quiz team) in Room 2114 after school. All grades and levels are welcome! Email ligonta@cps-k12.org with questions.

All Day Absence:
Please use either the attendance email (whhsattendance@gmail.com) or the All Day Absence Hotline (513-363-8404). Email is actually preferred and student name and grade level should be in the subject line. We are trying to do away with paper notes.
Early Dismissals:
Parents/guardians should email the attendance office (whhsattendance@gmail.com) to request early dismissal the day before or the morning of the early dismissal date. Please remind students that they need an Early Dismissal Permission Pass from the grade level office to leave campus (even during the passing bell).
This is a reminder if your student becomes ill during the school day, they must see the nurse in order to be dismissed. Attendance will be updated at the end of the day. If your ill student leaves campus without seeing the nurse, the absence will not be excused.
You can find this information and more using the link below "Reporting Absences & Dismissals" in the Stay Informed! section.
