After this week, we cannot guarantee yearbooks will be available for purchase.

Mandated Vision/Hearing Screenings

All students in grades K, 2, 5, and 8 will participate on Monday (4/4) in a brief screening process for vision and hearing. This is a mandated program that all schools provide for students in these grade levels, and it has been hugely successful in identifying concerns that may not have been noticed prior. Parents will be notified if there are any concerns with their child's vision or hearing.

Gr K-5 Summer School Registration Begins Monday (4/4)

We are happy to share that VUSD will once again be offering free summer school for elementary students currently in grades TK-5. This year’s summer school promises to be highly interactive, with field trips and project-based learning (PBL) activities.

Students will be enrolled on a first-come-first-served basis. The enrollment window will open this Monday, April 4th, at 6:00 p.m. Parents who would like to enroll their child may do so using an online link or by picking up an application at our office.

The grade K-5 VUSD Summer School Registration link will be available beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Monday (4/4) and will close on Sunday (4/17) at midnight.

Here’s what else you need to know:

  • Summer school will be held Monday thru Thursday from June 13th to June 30th.
  • School will begin at 8:15 a.m. and end at 12:15.
  • Breakfast will be served about 7:45 a.m. and lunch will be offered during the school day.
  • GLC students will attend the summer school at Four Creeks elementary school (1844 N Burke St, Visalia). Transportation will be provided for qualifying students.

Intervention Instruction in the RISE Room

In response to the impact of the COVID pandemic, our school now has a dedicated intervention teacher, with classified assistance, to help identify and redress gaps in student learning. This teacher's name is Ms. Steele and she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with her to our school. Over the past couple of weeks, we assessed all students in grades 3-6 in critical Reading skills. Based on the results of this assessment, and with teacher input, we'll be pulling students for short-term, highly focused, small group instruction in our intervention classroom, which we call the RISE room. Parents/guardians of students who will be attending pull-out intervention instruction will be provided with a letter so they are aware of this additional support being provided to their child.

Open House - Save the Date!

Our Open House this year will be an in-person event. Please mark the date on your calendar early to be sure you can attend. This is a great opportunity to recognize your child's hard work, celebrate his/her accomplishments, and reinforce the importance of school in your child's success! Open House this year will be held on Thursday, April 28, from 5:30-7:00 p.m.

Seeking Volunteers for our World's Fair!

The GLC World's Fair is scheduled for Friday, May 13th. The GLC World's Fair is an evening of fun and community, similar to the fall festivals held at other schools. We aim to also incorporate learning by featuring activities (e.g., games, crafts) from around the world! If you would like to assist with planning or volunteering, please let us know by completing our World's Fair Volunteer Survey.

HEART Offering UTK for 2022-23

If you have a student who will be attending GLC next year as part of our new transitional kindergarten (UTK) program, the HEART program will also be serving this age group. HEART applications for the 2022-23 school year are available in the front office.

Enrollment for 2022-23

We are continuing to accept applications for the 2022-23 school year. If space is not available in your child’s grade, she/he will be placed on a waiting list by grade level. Seats will be offered on a first-come, first-serve, basis. We currently have waitlists at several grade levels. If you have friends or family who may be interested in attending GLC, please share this information with them. Applications are available on our website and in our front office.

Expanding access to Transitional Kindergarten

For the 2022-23 school year, the state of California is expanding access to transitional kindergarten programs. Students who will turn five by February 2nd, 2023, are eligible to enroll in universal transitional kindergarten (UTK). This is a new optional grade that precedes Kindergarten. Parents may opt to enroll their child in preschool or UTK. If you have a child who will turn 5 by 2/2/23 and would like her/him to attend GLC, please complete an Enrollment Requiest Form. More information about GLC's UTK program to come soon!
