SIT Conference

This year Glen Grove School will have 26 students presenting at the Students Involved with Technology Conference. The presenting students decided on their session topics from educational breakouts from Sphero, Little Bits, Dash and Dot, and coding just to name a few. They spent many recess periods working to prepare for this student lead conference. Mrs. Funke, Ms. Dahmer and Mrs. Mervis will be attending as presentation sponsors. We wish all presenters good luck this weekend. We know they will do a sensational job!

Celebrating With Books

Do you know that you can donate a book to our school library in honor of your child’s birthday? At the start of each month birthday book letters are sent home to the students who are celebrating that month. A new hardcover book, on average, costs about $20 but any contribution is welcome and appreciated. If you choose to make a donation, your child will get to come to the library to choose the donated book from a special collection of new books reserved for “Celebrating with Books!” A special bookplate stating your child’s name and birthday month will be placed inside the book and your child will be the first to check it out to share with family and friends. This is in addition to his/her two independent reading books. When your child is finished reading the book, it will be returned to the library and become part of Glen Grove’s permanent collection. What a great way to honor your child and celebrate reading!

Keeping Our School Community Healthy

We have entered the time of year when we see influenza (flu) and other respiratory viruses at school. We want to let you know what steps we are taking to keep our school community healthy and how you can help. Click here for more information.

Food Service Information

Please review this important food service information which includes the menu cycle and the cycle calendar. Click here for the February Food Service Newsletter.

Change in Dismissal Arrangements

If you need to change the after school pick-up arrangements for your child, please send a note to you child's teacher. If you need to change arrangements at the last minute, during the school day, please make sure you call our office before 2:00 p.m. to inform us of the change. There is a lot going on in a school office both at the beginning and the end of school day. By calling before 2:00 p.m., you are giving the front office staff the time needed to locate classroom teachers and communicate the message regarding the pick-up arrangements for your child in a timely manner.

Outdoor Recess Procedures

The benefits of an outdoor recess are many and Glen Grove makes every effort to see that all of our students go outdoors every day. Children are able to exercise, socialize and experience a variety of activities with friends and this all helps to enhance their learning experience. Starting the afternoon after a time of fresh air definitely improves learning, alertness and overall productivity.

Please make sure your children are dressed appropriately for outdoor play. In cold weather boots, mittens or gloves, warm jackets, snow pants, hats and scarves are a must. If your child wears boots to school, please remember to send in shoes for them to use during physical education. The wind chill factor must be ten or below or it must be too wet or raining before we cancel outdoor recess. The children are out approximately 20 minutes. Please note that children must wear coats if temperatures are below 32°F.

We are often presented with requests for children to remain indoors at recess, generally because of allergies or as part of a recovery from illness. If it is necessary for your child to be indoors at recess, a note from the doctor will be required. We appreciate your support and cooperation with our recess procedure.

Cell Phone Usage Form

All students that carry a cell phone to school must have a cell phone usage form on file with the front office. Please fill out the attached form and send it to the Glen Grove Office. The guidelines are included in this attachment.
