We are almost there!!!!

The new year is fast approaching. To finish strong we will continue to focus on Academic Excellence for all students everyday. How do we doing this? It includes ensuring our responses to the following reflection questions are as follows:


  • Do I included higher order thinking questions in my daily mini-lessons, guided reading, and independent practice?


Answer should be: YES!


  • Do I teach students how to categorize and answer higher order thinking questions daily in my mini-lessons and guided reading?


Answer should be: YES!


  • Are the higher order thinking questions that I teach students daily, rigorous as the questions students will see on the state test (3-5) and mclass (k-3)?


Answer should be: YES!

  • Do I implement my interventions plans with fidelity?


Answer should be: YES! (if not schedule a time with Ms. Craig immediately so

so that she can work with you)


  • Do I know how many students in my class that are not proficient in each of the standards I have taught this year so far? Do I keep an on-going record that reflect this information?


Answer should be: YES!


  • Do I provide targeted remediation to the list of students that are not yet proficient in specific standards and then reassess to see if they are now proficient?


Answer should be: YES!


  • Do I spiral back to keep skills sharp and ensure retention of what is learned daily? Do I spiral back on common assessments to track how well students are retaining the standards previously taught? Are my common assessments rigorous as the assessments students will take at the end of the year? (EOG and Mclass)


Answer should be: YES!


If your answer to any of the questions above is "No", or if there are any other instructional areas of support you need, please schedule a time to meet with me, Ms. Craig, or Ms. Uzoewulu one on one, so that we can help you implement the strategies stated above. These just outline a few things that will have a significant impact on the growth students make this year. We are a team and because this is a team effort we are here to support each other.

DPS Employee of the Month for December- Brittny Lassiter


Congratulations to Brittny Lassiter


She was nominated for W.G. Pearson Elementary School's Employee of the Month.

Thanks to a random drawing from a list of people that truly go over and beyond, and trust me we have a lot of staff members that do so, we would like to take this time to recognize Ms. Lassiter for her wonderful contributions to W.G. Pearson Elementary

Brittny Nicole Lassiter Instructional Assistant and President of the Organization P.E.A.R.L.S at WG Pearson Elementary School saw a tremendous need to provide mentorship for the girls at WG Pearson. She had a vision that consisted of empowerment, building, motivation, and preparation for the girls in regards to life skills and education. With this vision came P.E.A.R.L.S (Poise, Ettiquette, Academics, Responsibility, Leadership, and Safety) a program created to serve fourth and fifth grade with mentorship. Ms. Lassiter formed a committee board with women she knew would be perfect role models and be the mentors our young girls needed. She came up with a curriculum that teaches the girls how to handle everyday challenges they may experience at their age as far as loving themselves, hygiene, and being responsible. The P.E.A.R.L.S Organization have done great things at WG Pearson that involves the girls being effective members in their community and example would be the P.E.A.R.L.S Lupus fundraiser we did to support the fight against Lupus. The membership of P.E.A.R.L.S has grown significantly. Thanks to Ms. Lassiter's vision the P.E.A.R.L.S Organization is impacting the lives of the young women of our future.

Beginning in February staff members will nominate the DPS Employee of the Month for W.G. Pearson Elementary.

  • December 9, 2015-Staff Winter Dinner (Special Thanks to Ms. Tucker for organizing this event)
  • December 11, 2015-Winter Ball will be rescheduled
  • DECEMBER 15-DEADLINE TO COMPLETE MID-YEAR TEACHER WORKING CONDITIONS SURVEY
  • December 17, 2015 Winter Showcase -6:30 p.m.
  • K-2 12:15 - 1:05
    3-5 1:30 - 2:30


  • December 21-January 2-Winter Break (Building will not be opened during this time)

Parent Conferencing-Extension

Thank you for your diligence with keeping parents informed of their child's progress through your parent conferencing. All parent conferences for the first quarter, for each student, will need to be completed by December 4, 2015. A log of the conferences (phone or in person) should be placed in my box by December 7, 2015.
