What's Up in 4th Grade!
It was great to see all the families at open house last night! Thank you all for coming!!
Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Estep! Keegan is now a big brother to Genevieve Ann Estep, born Feb. 20th. She weighed in at 7lbs 11oz, and was 19.5 in.
Language Arts
In writing, we will complete an expository piece explaining whether it is important to laugh.
Math
This week, students continued to work on conversions with the customary units as well as the metric system and were introduced to problems that dealt with units of time conversions. Analyzing relationships is a crucial process when doing measurement conversions and students practiced this skill by completing conversion task cards.
Our unit test is scheduled for Tuesday, March 15th. Students may use the red pages, pgs. 691-698, to study for the math test.
**Please continue to practice multiplication and division facts with your child.
Science and Social Studies
After Spring Break, we start embarking on a scientific journey to understand and communicate the importance of water and weather. Students will be exposed to the driving question of how a good weather forecast is made, and how to record changes in local weather. Critical vocabulary like cold/warm front, weather map, and map key will be delved deeper into as students are required to understand essential questions like: What conditions create a change? What's important to a system? How does the Sun affect Earth?
From the Teachers
- Please always send your child with a coat during cold weather. We go outside if the temperature is 40 degrees or above. Also remember to label all of your child's removeable clothing so we may find its owner easily.
- Reading Logs: Skaggs has a new reading program that we would love to encourage your children to participate in. With this reading program, your child will read at home and record the number of minutes that he or she has read each night. At the end of the week, your child can record the number of minutes read for the week on the following web site: http://tinyurl.com/SkaggsReadingLog
- We would like to encourage your child to bring their electronic devices. Electronic devices are being used in all subject areas every day, along with music and art.
- Be a star for our students and write a check to our PTA. See the information below regarding the Skaggs PTA Check Writing Campaign.
- A fourth grade website just for parents! You will find links, important information, and much more. https://sites.google.com/a/pisd.edu/fabulous-fourth-grade-friends/
