Introducing our New Staff Member

Everyone, Meet Jen

Hi everyone, my name is Jen Fisher and I’m a transplant from Hilton Elementary where I have twin girls (Phoebe & Penelope) who attend 2nd grade. Prior to having twins, I was a Juvenile Drug Court Therapist and hold a Masters Degree in Counseling. I am happily married to my husband of almost 10 years and live in Brighton. I enjoy watching football, gardening and hanging out at the beach with my girls. I’m so excited to become part of the family at Spencer and look forward to remembering everyone’s name!☺

COVID Communication

In an attempt to NOT over-communicate to all families at Spencer with emails regarding positive Covid 19 cases, BAS is no longer sending community-wide emails to all parents and guardians for each case, at each building.

We ARE, of course, still sending emails to ALL students, parents, and staff facing mandated quarantines and ALL parents, students, and staff who have been in classrooms where a positive Covid 19 case has been reported.

This week at Spencer, we had 0 new cases. Some students may be under precautionary quarantines that are unrelated to the school district. Families of those directly impacted have already received direct communication regarding any new cases this week. If you have any questions regarding COVID-19, please feel free to visit our district's COVID-19 transparency site at https://www.brightonk12.com/Page/8729"

In addition, the Livingston County Health Department is no longer receiving the reports of positive COVID-19 tests of adults between the ages of 19-64 from the testing sites. For this reason, they are requesting that our parent/guardians self-report if they have tested positive or exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19 to allow for the necessary contact-tracing within our school. You will find the link to the to the COVID-19 Self-Reporting Form below...

Vision Screening

Spencer will be having the annual Vision Screening done by LCHD on January 25, 26 & 28 for our 1st & 3rd grade students and follow-ups for students from last year. Please read the information and guidelines below for additional information. If your student is attending BVA and you would like to have their vision screened free of charge, you can call the Livingston County Health Department at 517-552-9850 to make an appointment. They have appointments available twice a month.

PTO News

Gift from 2019-2020 Fourth Grade Class

Due to COVID-19 and the extended shut down, the gift to the school from last year's 4th grade class was delayed, but the PTO is happy to report it has now been delivered. Thanks to Katie Tierney for her hard work on completing this gift to the school. We now have a cabinet at the end of the main hallway across from the door to the playground (near the K pod). It's filled with backpacks which currently contain:

1 Binocular

2 magnifying glasses

1 notebook

1 container of beeswax crayons

1 nature guide from Stan Tiekela “Birds of Michigan”

2 pencils

On its way, to be placed in the bag;

1 nature guide, Stan Tiekela “Trees of Michigan”

Tracing paper

The school is developing a plan for teachers to be able to check out these backpacks to study nature outside with their classes!

BVA Pickup

The PTO will combine the January and February pickup for BVA families to get their monthly books and other materials on a date to be determined in February. Once we receive the February book order, we will choose a date. Stay tuned!

COUNSELOR'S CORNER

Counselor Corner!

Happy New Year from your Elementary Counselor, Mrs. McKiddy! We hope you had a well rested, and memory filled, time with your loved ones. For the month of January, we are taking time to further acknowledge and support that extra added stress this crazy year has brought us. We are diving into mindfulness, coping skills, and other practices that treat the mind, body, and soul. The goal of these lessons is to promote self-regulation and self-reflection in our young learners, as well as to practice a sense of peace and calm during our days.

Lets Connect: If you are noticing some behaviors that are interfering with your child’s success in the classroom, please feel free to complete my parent referral form and we can work together to determine if supports are needed here at school.

More Resources: We also have our BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home!
