PUPIL FREE DAY - FRIDAY 25th AUG
PUPIL FREE DAY - MONDAY 28th AUG
NOONGAR SEASON OF DJILBA (AUG-SEP)
PRINCIPAL'S POST
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
A reminder to all parents that tomorrow, Friday 25th August is s PUPIL FREE DAY and Monday 28th August is also a PUPIL FREE DAY. On both days there will be no staff on site. Tomorrow, staff will be undertaking some professional learning in the wellness space and team building, while on Monday, our school is taking our annual Catholic Day. This is a day provided for each school in recognition of the additional commitments required when working in a Catholic School. This year, we have coordinated our pupil free days to align with IMCC, therefore both schools have pupil free days making tomorrow the start of a 4-day weekend for families.
NEW FAMILIES
Over the past fortnight, we welcomed two new students and their families, Noah (1B) and Elizabeth (3W) Stanisic. They have joined our community at a very busy time with a lot happening but we hope they have felt welcomed and embraced and look forward to their journey here at St Francis.
SCHOOL EVENTS
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff and families for the number of events and experiences that have been coordinated for our children over the last couple of weeks. To say our school calendar is full is an understatement. I wanted to acknowledge a number of staff for their efforts.
Monday 14th Aug - Kolbe Feast Day (Ms Campbell)
Tuesday 15th Aug - Assumption of Mary Mass (Mrs Hunt, Ms Selyer, Ms Hamilton)
Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday 15/16/17th Aug - National Science Week Incursions and the student-led science experiments (Mrs Coker)
Thursday 17th Aug - Sacrament of Confirmation (Mrs Freeman, Mr Gorman, Ms Campbell and ALL staff for their support and attendance)
Friday 18th Aug - BookWeek Incursion (Mrs Howell)
Friday 18th Aug - Year 4 One Big Voice Choir Performance (Mr Cunniffe, Mrs Hunt, Ms Selyer)
Monday 21st Aug - BookWeek Incursion (Mrs Howell)
Monday 21st Aug - Performing Arts Choir Year 3-6 (Mr Cunniffe)
Tuesday 22nd Aug - BookWeek Incursion (Mrs Howell)
Wednesday 23rd Aug - BookWeek Parade (ALL our staff for getting dressed up and the wonderful parents for the costumes they organised for the kids!)
The above is in addition to the regular teaching and learning programs taking place in the classrooms. I am very appreciative, and believe we are extremely fortunate to have such an engaged staff willing to provide these experiences for our children. This goes above and beyond the role of a classroom educator and enables our children to be part of a vibrant learning community filled with varied experiences!
P&F SECOND HAND BOOK SALE & BOOK WEEK PARADE
Thank you to the P&F for coordinating the Second Hand Book Sale to kick off Book Week this year. It was great to see so many children purchasing books and being engaged with reading. This wouldn't have been possible without the donations from all parents and the parent volunteers pricing, organising and running the stall. Special thanks to Rose Canzirri, Meg Goldie, Emma Stratfold, Grace Santos-Swift, Danielle Hayman and Tanya Levantard.
The Book Week author incursions and Book Week Parade ensured we celebrated this year's theme of Read, Inspire, Grow in a significant way and was a fantastic celebration of reading. Thank you also to parents for rushing around sorting out costumes for your children. They looked amazing!
FATHER'S DAY BREAKFAST
A reminder to parents that our Father's Day Breakfast will take place next Friday 1st September. There will be a breakfast sausage sizzle, coffee and tea. Parents were sent a link to RSVP their attendance via SeeSaw. The link is also below to enable us to cater effectively for the event:
YEAR 6 CONFIRMATION
Last Thursday, we shared in our Year 6 children receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. Thank you to Father Darek and Father Marian as the co-celebrants of the occasion. It was a reverent and enriching mass and we congratulate all children now considered full adult members of the Catholic Church. Thank you also to the wonderful parents who supported the sacrament by allowing their children to be part of the choir.
Well the Matilda's couldn't quite get over the line, but it was an unbelievable four weeks from our women's national football team. My attention now shifts to the Boomers and the FIBA World Cup and also the run to the AFL Finals. Yes - my life is dictated by the significance of sporting events in Australia and around the world!
Enjoy your four-day weekend and we will see you back on Tuesday.
Best wishes

ST FRANCIS OF ASSISI MASS & MISSION FETE
Our St Francis day of celebration is fast approaching! We will come together as a school community to celebrate the Feast of St Francis on Friday 13 October. It would be wonderful to have a FAMILY bring forward the gifts (bread & wine) at Mass - please contact me on SEESAW if your family would like to take part.
Parents please keep your eyes open later this term for notes from class teachers.
