Arts Magnet Weekly News
Week 16 for Families and Community November 29-Dec.3, 2021
Feast of Lights!
Dear Eliot Arts Magnet Families,
I hope you found time to rest and enjoy some delicious food and conversation with those you hold dear. We had a quiet Thanksgiving with just our immediate family and instead of turkey, had an Italian feast complete with lasagne, garlic bread and a big New York cheesecake!
Now it's time to finish the first half of our school year strong with our tree and wreath pick up day at the elementary campus, and our outdoor holiday show on December 16 at 6 pm starting out in front of the school on Lake Ave.
Tonight marks the first night of Hanukkah and for those who celebrate, I wish you a beautiful chag sameach!
Holiday Show
Parents, we are excited to welcome you back to campus for our holiday show, You Raise Me Up, on Thursday, 12/16/21 @ 6 pm beginning on Lake Avenue in front of the school. Please bundle up and join us for this beautiful promenade style show. Entrance is FREE!
Annual Fund is coming!
We have secured a very exciting, special guest of honor. Please stay tuned for the big reveal and for tickets to go on sale soon! This is going to be one fabulous event for our school.
I wish you a wonderful sunny Sunday and a great last few days of November.
It's a great year to be an Eliot Husky!
Yours in Service,
Dr. Scheckel, Principal
Join Us, December 16 @ 6 pm!
Meet our New Full Time Librarian!
Building a school-wide culture of reading is the first step in continuing to raise academic achievement at Eliot Arts. We are excited to be able to have our library open daily, with book talks in classrooms and a thriving book club of readers.
Summer St. Pierre is excited to join the faculty and team at Eliot Arts Magnet. Her background in education includes working as an English teacher for 15 years at several schools around Los Angeles, teaching grade levels 7-12 and all types of students. Summer has this to say, "My love for books and sharing stories led me to adjust my career path two years ago toward school librarianship, and I'm excited to pick up where Natalie Daily has left off in building a thriving library program at Eliot. When I'm not working, I love going on adventures - mountain biking, swimming, and hiking - with my family and our dog, Poe. I am looking forward to working with all of you!" Welcome Summer!!!
Thank you Mr. Moya!

Mask Mandate Policy
We have a strict mask mandate on both our campuses to keep all students, staff and families safe from infection with COVID-19. We understand the masks can be uncomfortable for students to wear all day long, but they are necessary. We will follow the process below for students who do not/can not wear a mask over their nose, mouth and chin:
- First time, Verbal warning to wear their mask
- Second time, Phone call home
- Third time, Recommendation for PUSD Independent Study for 3 days
Student will be placed on our regular independent study program for 3 days. This program keeps the student enrolled at their present school with work delivered on Canvas. After 3 days the student returns to their home school and the process starts all over. Each time we get to step three, we add an additional day of independent study until we reach the maximum which is 15 days. After that, student will be referred to our district's CIS program for the rest of the school year.
If you have any questions about this policy, please reach out to principal Scheckel.
