PTO Membership Drive! And PTO Meeting this Wednesday!

PTO Membership Drive

We are holding a PTO Membership Drive to get families signed up for the Jefferson Academy PTO! Any student whose parent signs up for the PTO will receive a "Skip a Class Pass" that they can use to miss one class period during virtual learning. Check out this awesome video created by Ms. Nero to learn more about the membership drive!

PTO Meeting

The next PTO meeting is this Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 6 pm. Here is the Zoom information:

SLC Fall Fest: Saturday at JA!

When: Saturday, October 31 from 10:00-2:00

What: A Fall Fest/Halloween Parade to celebrate completed SLCs! Drive or walk up to pick up your face mask SLC incentive and some extra goodies!

Where: Jefferson Academy - 801 7th St SW (Drive Up: 7th Street entrance, Walk Up: H St. entrance)

How: Socially distanced! We will be following all CDC guidelines, so please wear a mask and maintain a 6-foot distance from other attendees. Please follow the directional arrows to drive/walk up and help us keep everyone safe!

Mr. Dohmann vs. Blazin' Wing - Monday at CM!

Last week, Mr. Dohmann challenged Jefferson students to SHOW UP and SHOW OUT on their A-Net ELA assessment. And they did it, with nearly 90% of students completing the assessment on Wednesday. As a result, Mr. Dohmann must eat a Buffalo Wild Wings Blazin' Wing (made with Ghost Pepper Sauce) at Community Meeting on Monday. Don't miss it!

Students who did NOT complete their A-Net test will make it up this Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 9-11 am.

Free eBook Access for Students!

DCPS students now have access to free ebook catalogs through their school CLEVER account. Students now have access to endless reading selections for leisure and required content reading. The student video tutorials below will provide students/parents with step by step instructions on how to log onto these platforms. Please reach out to Ms. Boyd (kimberlyceleste.boyd@k12.dc.gov) with any questions!

No School on Nov. 3 and Nov. 6! Q1 Ends Nov. 5!

There is no school for students on Tuesday, Nov. 3, for Election Day. Students are also off on Friday, Nov. 6, for staff professional development and record-keeping.

The final day of Quarter 1 is Thursday, Nov. 5. This will now be a B Day (Thursday is usually an A Day) so students are able to visit all of their classes during this abbreviated week.

Staffing Update

Dr. Nussbaum returns this Monday, Oct. 26. If you have questions about 8th grade Science, please contact her at marjorie.nussbaum@k12.dc.gov. Welcome back, Dr. N!

Our 8th grade ELA and Social Studies Special Education teacher Ms. Clowes will head out on maternity leave in the next few weeks. During her leave, her role will be filled by other Jefferson staff members, specificaly Ms. Locher, Ms. Yutesler, and Ms. Garner. JA Virtual High School Fair & HS Open House Information

The JA Virtual High School Fair is Tuesday, Nov. 17, from 6-8 pm. The following schools have already confirmed their attendance (with more to come!): Eastern, Phelps, Dunbar, SWW, Banneker, Bard, Ballou, Coolidge, Richard Wright & Thurgood Marshall.

For the second straight year, we are working with Fan Cloth to do a "JA Swag Sale" benefitting our PTO! Last year, this initiative raised more than $1,000 for our PTO! Here's an early preview of our JA Swag Site. We will officially launch the Swag Sale in the next few weeks. Stay tuned!

Our fabulous Library Media Specialist Ms. Boyd has created the "JA Resource Hub" on Canvas. Check out the site to find a plethora of resources for Jefferson students and families, including:

DCPS Technical Assistance Hotline

Jefferson is running low on student laptops, so we will no longer be able to exchange student laptops when issues arise. If your student is experiencing issues with their laptop, please utilize the DCPS hotline below:

Call the hotline at 202-442-5885 to get help with student logins/passwords or other technical issues with accessing learning platforms (i.e., Canvas, Teams) or DCPS-issued device support. Technical assistance is available 24/7 because we know learning at home looks different for every family.
