School Counseling
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application is now available to complete. This application can be found at fafsa.gov. The FAFSA is the most important application in the financial aid process. All colleges and universities will require the FAFSA before determining a financial aid award. Colleges may also require students to complete a CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE (profileonline.collegeboard.org) and/or a college specific financial aid application. It is important to be aware of each college's financial aid deadlines - missing deadlines could result in missing out on financial aid. For more information on the financial aid process please visit mefa.org.
FAFSA Day Massachusetts is a non-profit, volunteer driven program providing free assistance to students and families seeking to complete the FAFSA. These events will be taking place in high schools, colleges, and libraries across the Commonwealth and will provide one-on-one, step-by-step assistance for families completing the FAFSA. Please visit FAFSADay.org or email fafsaday@gmail.com for more information.
A message from the Health Office
Notes from Debbie Donohoe in the THS Health Office
Now that the weather has changed more students are complaining of sore throats, ear aches, stomach aches and cold symptoms. Here are a few tips to help prevent illness:
Bring a refillable water bottle to school every day.
Use good hand hygiene
Dress appropriate for the weather
To provide the healthiest possible environment at school, children should not be sent to school when symptoms of illness are present:
Temperature 100 degrees or above within past 24 hours without fever reducing medication such as Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin)
Vomiting or diarrhea within past 24 hours
Excessive coughing and nasal discharge
Suspected infection of eye, ears, nose, throat, skin, scalp
Severe abdominal pain or headache
Suspected communicable disease (including, but not limited to: strep throat, conjunctivitis, impetigo, chicken pox, whooping cough, scabies, and scarlet fever). Please notify the school nurse if your child contracts any communicable disease.
Suspected fractures or any severe or disabling injury until under physician care
Questionable need for sutures
Head injury until under physician care
Antibiotic therapy started less than 24 hours before returning to school
***Students may also be dismissed or excluded from school for any of the above***
Students should remain home for 24 hours after fever has subsided without the use of fever-reducing medication such as Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin). Students should also be symptom free of vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.
Students receiving antibiotics for contagious conditions such as strep throat, conjunctivitis, etc. must stay out of school until at least 24 hours of antibiotic therapy has been completed.
School absences or dismissals will be medically excused upon receipt of documentation from their physician.
As flu season approaches, be sure to get your flu shot. US flu activity is currently low but flu season is approaching. The CDC recommends everyone 6 months and older get a flu vaccine by the end of October. Current flu information can be found at: https//www.mass.gov/influenza
Please keep the Health Office notified of any changes in your child’s health status to include fractures, sprains, concussions, communicable illness, etc.
