Characterization of Leo Valdez
Leo's thoughts/ words/ actions
- He messes with Achemedes' spheres to stop eidolons from killing Hazel, Frank, and himself.
- Protects Hazel by dressing up like a hunky jock to attract the packs of swarming girls surrounding a god they need to talk to.
What other characters think of him
- Frank thought Leo was trying to steal Hazel from him when Hazel was giving him a flashback, so he didn't like him at the time. Later, he realizes Leo isn't trying to steal her from him.
- Curly, black hair
- pointy ears ( he's not an elf )
- baby face
Narrator's comments
- Leo was resisting the urge to stop messing with Echo, a girl was cursed to repeat everything someone says.
The author frequently uses characterization by using Leo's actions and words.
Point of veiw
The author writes this story in 3rd person limited perspective for many reasons.
- He switches from four different points of view throughout the book.( Annabeth, Piper, Percy, and Leo)
- Even though he switches points of view, the author doesn't reveal the other character's feelings.
Dialouge
- Pg 206
" Where's Leo?" he gasped. " Take off! Take off!"
Frank said this when he, Percy, and Coach Hedge returned from the the Atlanta Aquarium. He meant that some monsters were hot on their tails.
- Pg 46
" You see," Octavian screamed, " Romans, kill the invaders!"
Octavian yelled at the Romans to kill them because Leo accidentally started firing on Camp Jupiter.
Theme of the Story
The theme of the story is " Working together gets the job done. " and " Friendship goes a long way."
Examples of the themes
- Jason, Percy, and Piper work together to fight Otis and Ephialties.
- When the characters split up to finish the little tasks, they come back together to save Annabeth.
