Dear Parents and Guardians,
Can you believe it is October already? This last month of school has flown by. It is so nice to be settling into routines and classes. We are focusing on what we are thankful this month, and for us, that includes all of you. Thank you for being a part of our Wildcat community.

Limestone Elementary Athletics Return to Sport
In what has been a long-anticipated return to inter school sports, last week marked a return to competition for our intermediate (grade 7 and 8) soccer teams. Please read more below about the great time we had last week!
Public Health and the LDSB are proceeding cautiously, and late last week approved inter school cross-country competitions for grade 3-8. Like soccer, there is a quick turn-around for these races to get off the ground. Competing athletes will be those students who can demonstrate they can complete the full distance at a good pace, without stopping or walking. More information will be coming to interested students today from their homeroom teacher.
Girls Soccer
In the course of history, there have been untold numbers of EPIC battles between good and evil; The Allies defeat of the Axis powers in WW2, Emilio Estevez and his Mighty Ducks come-from-behind win over the villainous Hawks, the triumph of Mr. McDonough over Mrs. Horlor in the Hot Dog battle of 2021. And now, joining this elite group of epic heroes, come the Welborne Wildcats Girl’s Soccer Team of 2021 and their hard-fought battle against the evil soccer forces of Calvin Park Public School, Acadie and Perth Road Public School!
Last week, led by stalwart goaltending from Lauren and Clara, the Girl’s Soccer team competed with grit, gumption and intestinal fortitude (that means guts!) in their season-ending tournament at John Machin Fields. After losing their first game to Calvin Park, the girls rallied and scored 3 unanswered goals, 2 from Tessa and 1 from Arushi, to beat Acadie. Then, in a tight quarterfinal match against Perth Road, Tessa scored another goal to almost defeat their rivals by a score of 2-1.
Throughout the tournament, the girls demonstrated the best sportspersonship and growth mindset, giving it their all until the bitter end.
Huge congratulations to: Madi, Clara, Lu, Charlotte, Miley, Emma, Sophia, Kyara, Arushi, Claire, Isabelle, Devan, Lauren, Tessa, and Ellie. Special thanks to Mr. McDonough for coaching.
Boys Soccer
Back in 1956, when Elvis had his first #1 hit in, “Heartbreak Hotel”, he wasn’t singing about the Welborne Boys Soccer Team. This past Thursday however, it was a fitting final soundtrack to the battle-worn boys, who played brilliantly and with heart throughout the day, losing in a shoot-out in the championship against a tough Calvin Park Team.
The theme from Rocky must have been in their subconscious throughout the day because with grit and determination, the boys went undefeated in round-robin play throughout the day, beating eventual champions Calvin Park early on by a score of 4-1, defeating Lancaster 1-0, and Southview 4-1. Goals by Luke, Ryan, Cohen and Hewitt aided our Wildcats in the scoring department, and Emerson scored a whopping 6 goals throughout the day, making him the leading scorer for all teams in Division 2.
Cohen and Seamus were sparkplugs all day - playing big minutes and showing that nothing was going to break their stride, nobody was going to slow them down, oh-no, they had to keep on moving.
They say it’s tough to look great as a goalie, but Rogan Steele proved otherwise, diving, punching and scrapping all day - keeping our team on top like a Cindy Lauper song - Time after Time.
Aretha Franklin would have been ecstatic - the boys showed RESPECT throughout the tournament, demonstrating sportspersonship that was matched only by their stellar play.
Congratulations on your silver medal showing goes to: Rogan, Jadyn, Matthew, Fatih, Grady, Creighton, Harrison, Hewitt, Jacob, Ertugrul, Emerson, Ryan, Cohen, Luke, Seamus, Rohit, Cooper, Brady, and Finley. Welborne is very proud of you!
Special thanks to Mr. McFarlane and Ms. Lowe for coaching.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2021 AT 5 PM
Come join us for a discussion about our latest Autism program – Project ImPACT. The Maltby Centre and a coalition of agencies across Southeastern Ontario have been selected by the Government of Ontario to deliver Project ImPACT – a new evidence-based program to teach parents of children with Autism under the age of 4 years how to improve their child’s social communication skills. The funding is being rolled out as part of changes to the Ontario Autism Program.
The Livestream on October 13th will feature one of Maltby’s Autism experts discussing the program and how it works. We’ll also be taking questions live from viewers on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
The program will support an estimated number of 30 children aged one to four years over the two year period. Each family will be supported by trained professionals over a short, intense interval. The curriculum includes group and individual components. The program will focus on building parents’ and caregivers’ capacity to support their child’s skill development in social interaction, play, communication, emotional development and adaptive development and self-help skills using the Project ImPACT curriculum.
The Maltby Centre is one of Ontario’s leading Autism services providers. It has been providing Autism services in KFL&A for more than 25 years. The Maltby Centre led partnership includes ConnectWell Community Health, Counselling Services of Belleville & District and the Early Expressions Pre-School Speech & Language Program.
