Principal's Prose
Greetings Team,
I hope that everyone had a great and restful weekend! With such a super, fun filled, Field Day adding to the many memorable happenings of 2017-2018, we all know that it does symbolize an important mark in our journey together...the end of the school year is near.
Now, in completing that last sentence, I literally went back and fourth upon deciding which punctuation mark would be most appropriate in communicating my thoughts and feelings. Here's why. As in the case of any ordinary school year reaching it's conclusion, the overwhelming urge to use an exclamation mark (maybe several, in extra bold print) would be most properly suited, and well received. However, in the face of the rather unique circumstance we face together as Sudie L. Williams Elementary School, "the end" takes on a much different meaning. Whereas change has come to our dear Sudie, this hour marks the beginning of our many transitions towards new beginnings, both exciting, and honestly, a bit saddening.
As a committed and determined team, we have done SO MANY amazing things together, making history, setting new trends and traditions, raising expectations while guiding students and learning from each other. Most remarkably, the rare culture of passion, warmth, acceptance and tireless giving we've created has been special to our children, their families, and our community. Our school has become the heartbeat of the community, and the strength of our work and results will beat onward, as the legacy of what we've done will live on in the hearts and minds of those who remember.
So, with that said, as we look to the final few weeks and commence in performing the necessary acts representative of the shift towards the future, I charge us all to enjoy each moment we have together with our students and each other. Though our statement as a remarkable team has been made, there's still so more to say, as there's still much more to do for students. Together as a team, we can put the ultimate exclamation mark on this school year it deserves, and as only we know how! In the shortest, simplest and most impactful way I know how to say it, "Though we must close the book, it's a blessing to remember the story."
Sincerely,
MJ
