Google Doodle Contest

Check out the Doodle 4 Google Contest.

Doodle 4 Google is an annual program that invites K-12 students in the United States to use their artistic talents to think big and redesign our homepage logo for millions to see.

This year, we ask students to exercise their creative imaginations around the theme, “My Best Day Ever…” One talented student artist will see their artwork appear on the Google homepage, receive a $30,000 college scholarship, and a $50,000 technology grant for their school along with some other cool prizes!

Make an Appointment with Matt!

Do you need some help in one of your math, chemistry or physical science classes? You can sign up for a tutoring session with Matt. To do this go to http://goo.gl/NNWvj and sign up for a 30 minute tutoring block. If there is a certain area of any of these subjects that you are having trouble with, let Matt know at mmontney@relevantacademy.org what you need help on. If enough people are having trouble in similar areas, he will do a reteaching of the material to better help you understand. (There may even be some videos of explosions from YouTube if it is the right topic...)

Profile of a Learner

Jessica G

Most of you know Jessica from Loretta's emails, Jessica has been working hard to reach and exceed her goal of 80 activities a week, last week Jessica had a whopping 228 activities. When asked about how she gets so many activities she simply says, "I want to graduate."

While Jessica is a hard worker, she does take time to hangout with friends, go to movies, and watch tv. Jessica plans to graduate this summer and would like to attend college for nursing. Her advice for other students, "whenever you aren't doing anything, or you're bored, do some work instead of just hanging around."

We are happy to have Jessica and all our learners here at Relevant Academy.

Mentor Competion

Learners, as you know you are all divided amongst three mentors, Jeff, Matt or if your lucky, Stacey. Starting February 4th we will begin a weekly (culminating in a monthly) competition amongst the mentors. Each week mentors will earn points based on the number of activities and attendance of their students. Weekly treats will be given to the mentor group with the highest number of points. Breakfast will be provided for the mentor group with the most points at the end of the month (Loretta is cooking, AWESOME).

Each mentor will get:
1 point for each student who earns 40-59 activities
2 points for 60-79
8 points for 80 activities or above
20 points for anything over 200 activities
5 points for students being in attendance on their cohort day for the full day.

So let get moving, the mentors are ready and excited for this epic battle, are you?
