How Sick Is Too Sick?
To prevent further spread and according to state requirements, students with certain illnesses are not allowed to come to school while contagious. The health office has seen many students is the past weeks for flu-like symptoms. Though a few have been diagnosed with strep throat, most conditions have been viral. Symptoms vary but include some of the following: headache, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, dry cough, sore throat, fever, and general fatigue. If the symptoms are severe or last more than 24 hours, it is recommended that you contact your physician or clinic.
Please remember that our policy requires that a student be free of acute illness symptoms for 24 hours before returning to school. This includes having a temperature greater than 99.9 degrees F (prior to taking fever reducing medications), vomiting, diarrhea, and contagious skin illnesses. Please use your best judgement in deciding when to send your child to school. While we do not want our students to miss valuable class time, we know that a child who is ill is not able to give his or her work the attention necessary to succeed.
To lessen the spread of communicable diseases, please remind your child of the importance of frequent, thorough hand washing, and covering their mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing.
Thanks,
Brittany A. Jones, RN

Changes In Going Home
If you are changing the way your child goes home, you must communicate that to the front office staff by stopping by the office or calling the office. Please do not send an email. Our teachers are busy teaching and helping students and often do not check their email throughout the day. The office communicates changes to our staff close to the end of the school day, but all changes must be reported to the office before 1pm. This helps us ensure a safe dismissal for all students. If your change affects a daycare provider, please inform the daycare, as well.
