Mr. Goetz's Corner

Dear Families of Deerfield,

We have reached the end of yet another great week here at Deerfield! This week began our chocolate fundraiser, and it has gone off with a blast! It is so amazing to see how excited our friends are to get out there and sell their chocolate. It makes all of us staff so proud and grateful to see our students taking pride in their school and working so hard to raise money for Deerfield. I would also like to extend a huge thank you to our PTO for working so hard to make this fundraiser possible and as exciting as can be for our students. More boxes were delivered to our students this afternoon, so have fun selling this weekend!

Speaking of going out and selling the bars, we are excited to partner with the Avondale High School Athletic Director, Mr. Kenny O'Shaughnessy, to sell the World's Finest chocolate bars at Avondale High School sporting events. You can find more information about selling at a sporting event below, or you can reach out to the main office, or our PTO at

We have some fun events coming up in the next few weeks! We are still looking for volunteers in many different areas, please see the information below for all the available opportunities. We are so thankful for such a helpful community to put on fun events for our students. Next Friday, September 23rd, we will be having our Annual Fun Run! We are all so excited, our students will be able to represent their favorite superhero with a cape or t-shirt, and run to raise money for Deerfield. Families and friends are welcome to attend to cheer on all of our friends. You can find a schedule of when your child will run below. We are also looking for water station volunteers, and you can find a sign up below as well.

Some of you may have seen Officer Dan Chynoweth, our district Director of Security at Deerfield on Wednesday during our dismissal. With our focus on the safety of our students, the Deerfield staff participated in an active shooter training after school. On Monday, Officer Dan will be at Deerfield to give safety presentations to our students. You can find out more about this presentation and a photo of Officer Dan below.

Picture day will take place on Thursday, September 29th. Students brought home order forms last week, and there are extra available in the main office. You can also order online, at, using the code EVTB67B2R.

Have a great weekend

Mr. Goetz

Deerfield Focus on Safety

With our focus on the safety of our students, on Wednesday the Deerfield staff participated in an active shooter training after school. This training was conducted by Dan Chynoweth, our district Director of Security and Officer Mike Lane, our district police liaison officer. I was extremely proud of our staff for their dedication to our students and their safety. They asked great questions and thought about many different scenarios and how to keep our students safe.

Some of you may have seen Officer Dan at Deerfield on Wednesday during our dismissal. I have included a picture of him as well for you to be able to recognize him. He will visit Deerfield at times.

Officer Dan does openly carry a weapon in a holster on his hip. If you ever see him, please feel free to introduce yourself to him.

On Monday, Officer Dan will be at Deerfield to give safety presentations to our students. When giving the safety presentations, we discuss the three types of emergency drills we have at Deerfield (Fire Drill, Severe Weather Drill, and Lockdown (Avoid, Deny, Defend)). When we talk about the lockdown drill with the students, we do not use the term, "Active Shooter." Instead we use phrases such as, "dangerous person" or "bad guy." We try to make sure our students know what to do in an emergency situation without creating fear from them.

We are in need of any items - baskets, markers, candles, soaps, tupperware, gift cards, arts/crafts, lotions, Legos, kid's toys, etc. If you have any questions, please email the PTO at Thank you for your donations and generosity! Worlds Finest Chocolate Fundraiser

We are excited to try a new fundraiser this year where students sell bars of chocolate. Your student watched a video in class this week with lots of details about how to sell the chocolate. Please return the chocolate checkout form from the flyer if you are interested in helping out with the fundraiser. All money needs to be turned in by Friday, October 14th. The video and flyer are below for your reference. Thank you for your help in supporting Deerfield!

We are excited to partner with the Avondale High School Athletic Director, Mr. Kenny O'Shaughnessy, to sell the World's Finest chocolate bars at Avondale High School sporting events.

You will need to provide your own table and chairs, plus your own cash box for change. It might be a good idea to have your student make a sign to hang on the table, too. When you arrive at the event, let the people working the door know that you are with Deerfield PTO to sell chocolate, so you don't have to pay the entrance fee.

If you would like to check out extra boxes of chocolate for your event, please email Bridget Neam at at least one day before your event. The chocolate can be sent home with your student, or you can pick it up in the office.

Please visit the Signup Genius to volunteer:
