This Week in Prep 1

It was a great start to the summer term with the Prep 1 classes celebrating the virtue of 'Enthusiasm'. There was indeed loads of this as we discussed our active Easter holidays and enjoyed getting back into the full swing of things with our learning. We had a wonderful kick-off to our IPC unit 'Clothes' with an Entry Point that was full of excitement, curiosity and exploration. We came to school on Thursday dressed in our favorite clothes from home and then had a wonderful dress-up party! The children then participated in a Knowledge Harvest where they discussed what they know about clothes and what they will be learning during the unit. Please do remember to send in a plain white pillow case - as the children will be using this throughout the unit to create their own special piece of clothing. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your classroom teacher.

In Language Arts we learned the phonic /Hh/ and the Magic 100 words /all/ and /for/. We also did some amazing writing about our holidays! We kicked off Poetry Month by reading a poem a day and even illustrating poems! In Mathematics we looked at patterns and used fingerprinting to make our own individual name patterns!

If all of this was not enough - it was also a very exciting week, as this was our first week to start our swimming lessons during PE! It was a splashing success! The kids loved getting into the pool and participating in this wonderful new addition to our PE program. A huge THANK YOU to the parent volunteers that came in and helped to get the kids ready for their lesson. We sincerely appreciate your time and support.

Early Years Chinese Readers Parent Workshop

To provide more opportunities for our Early Years children to practice their Chinese language skills, we will be launching the Early Years Chinese Readers program during the Summer Term. We hope that parents can support their children with reading at home. Please come to the workshop on 13th April from 8.00 a.m. to 8.30 a.m. at the Dance Studio to find out more.

We start the reading program for all Early Year children from the Summer Term on wards and 1 or 2 readers will be sent home per unit. The first reader for all Grades will be sent home next Friday. The Chinese teachers will read with the children in class before sending the reader home on Friday. The children are required to return the book the following Friday. The teaching partners in the class will help with this process. Groups have been created in eSchools with the following titles "Prep 1 Early Years Chinese Readers",etc so that parents can access the audio files for the individual books should the children have any problems reading. These will be conveyed to the parents during the workshop.

You are most welcome to attend the workshop so that you have a better understanding of the program.

Thank you.
