Note from the Principal
Good Evening Buena Vista Parents,
Hope you are having a great week. It was great to see so many of you on our PTA zoom meeting last night. I hope you found it informational and decide to join as a PTA Member if you have not done so yet. It's a great way to get involved in our school community and support our students. Our next PTA meeting is Tuesday, October 11th at 7pm via zoom.
Read-A-Thon
We are so excited for WCEF’s 3rd Annual Read-a-thon to read, read, read and raise funds for our schools. Please look out for materials from your classroom teacher and for emails from WCEF. Our school goal is to read 100,000 minutes and raise $15,000.
On Monday, Sept. 19 have your child come to school with their favorite book to kick off the Read-a-thon. WCEF is our district’s fundraising partner, providing additional funding for teacher and specialist salaries, academic programs, and additional classes not possible without gifts to WCEF.
I’m excited to say there is an app!! Pledgestar, which WCEF is using for the event, has an app to make it easy to track reading minutes and fundraise! You can customize your child’s appeal, translate it, have your gift matched, and more, To sign up visit pledgestar.com/wcef or for more information visit wcefk12.org/readathon.”
If our school makes our reading goal of 100,000 minutes! If we make this goal we will get a Spirit Dress Up Day--Hibernation Day--where students can wear their pajamas and bring their stuffies to school. In addition, we can earn school rewards for meeting our fundraising goals! When we hit $10,000 we will have an extended recess and Bulldog dance party! If we make our final goal $15,000 the top 5 earners get to TP the principal at the next assembly...wrap me up like a mummy!!!! I can't wait to see how our Bulldogs support the WCEF and our specialists by doing lots of reading and getting pledges from family and friends.

Teams meet once a week over the next 4-5 months to prepare and then perform their solution at the annual Odyssey of the Mind Regional Tournament. on Saturday February 25th, 2022.
If you may be interested, please come to the informational meeting Thursday, September 22nd from 5:15-5:45 PM on Zoom.
Parents and students should attend.
If you have questions, feel free to email Kirsten Choy at Kchoy@wcsd.k12.ca.us or visit the Odyssey of the Mind website at www.odysseyofthemind.com.
Calling all Mathletes for Math Olympiads (MOEMS) at BV!
If your child loves advanced math, consider joining our team that will compete in the MOEMS program, a challenging and fun math Olympics that has been running for 42 years in the US and worldwide!
The team will be made up of 4th and 5th graders, and coached and operated by some of our math-loving parents - Debbie Raphael (Josh's mom) will be the organizer/coordinator, and Merima Birkhimer (Keegan's mom) and Tedman Eng (Hudson's dad) will be the co-coaches.
Mrs. Pacific is the teacher sponsor, and the meetings will be held in her classroom (room 44) Wednesdays after school. We will meet once a week for practice, and compete five times throughout the year. The competitions will be held during the regular meeting time on set dates and then results will be submitted to the organization, with individual and team awards given at the end of the year.
There is a maximum of 35 students for the team, and we will work towards making this a
fun and educational challenge for the students that wish to participate!
If interested, please email debraphael@gmail.com by Friday, September 16th and include the name and grade of your student, your best phone number, and email address, and we will email you back with further information.
