News & Announcements
It's Digital Citizenship Week!
October 17-21, 2022, is National Digital Citizenship Week. This week provides an opportunity for Cumberland Valley, in partnership with families, to be more actively involved in further educating our children on how to engage in safe and meaningful online practices.
As part of our lessons each day this week, students are participating in a new Digital Citizenship activity or challenge to support skills of online self-monitoring and self-awareness. We encourage families to continue this discussion at home as opportunities present themselves.
Lessons focus on the following areas:
- Media Balance & Well-being: Students go beyond screen time to explore the impact their digital lives can have on their well-being and relationships while learning to balance media in their everyday lives.
- Privacy & Security: Students learn how to protect personal information and gain a deeper understanding of their data privacy rights so they can advocate for themselves and others.
- Digital Footprint and Identity: Students consider the benefits and risks of online sharing and explore how a digital persona can affect one’s sense of self, reputation, and relationships.
- Relationships & Communication: Students reflect on how to build positive relationships, avoid risky online talk, and understand why some topics and conversations can best lend themselves to certain mediums.
- Cyberbullying, Digital Drama & Hate Speech: Students take on these tough topics and play the active role of upstander to build positive, supportive online communities and combat online cruelty.
- News & Media Literacy: Students identify credible and trustworthy information sources and reflect on their responsibilities as thoughtful media creators and consumers.
We believe we can all be better digital citizens and support our students and families in this endeavor. For more information, please visit www.commonsense.org.
Fire Prevention Week 2022
Special thanks to all of our local first responders from throughout the district who recently volunteered to teach our students about the importance of fire safety. We're sincerely appreciative of your efforts to keep our students safe of your continued dedication to our community.
Upcoming Events
Every Day is a Great Day to Give Back to Our Community
Every day is a great day to give back to our community (and to earn a free pair of Bombas socks)!
As part of their games beginning at 5 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday, 10/20/22), the CV Water Polo teams are collecting items to help The Giving Pantry, a local non-profit that was formed to support at-risk families in our community. Donations will help the Giving Pantry prepare their upcoming Thanksgiving meals and stock shelves with necessities for families. Donations can be dropped off outside the pool entrance during the game tomorrow.
As a thank you, each person who brings at least three items for donation will receive a new pair of Bombas socks!
Click the photo for more information, including a list of items most needed.
Echoes in the Valley
The annual Echoes in the Valley marching band showcase will be held at Chapman Stadium beginning at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022. Currently, there are 14 local high school bands signed up to participate in addition to our very own Cumberland Valley Marching Band!
This year, CVMB’s production, “Adventure is Calling,” features music from the movies Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Jungle Cruise, and The Jungle Book.
This year’s event - hosted annually by the CVMB booster organization - marks the 50th Anniversary of the very first “Echoes,” held in 1972. The evening will also feature a special alumni event. CV Marching Band alumni who wish to be a part of the festivities can learn more by visiting the “Echoes 50 – Echoes in the Valley Marching Band Competition 2022" Facebook page. (NOTE: This is not an official CVSD social media page, but rather is maintained by the Band Boosters).
REMINDER: Cumberland Valley High School’s Patriots Club will host its annual Veterans Appreciation Ceremony at 6 p.m. on November 9, 2022, in the Performing Arts Center at CV High School. A complimentary reception honoring our military veterans and active duty service men and women will be held in the CVHS cafeteria immediately following the program.
This student-led, community-supported event will honor local veterans and active-duty military and will feature music and chorale performances, and remarks from special guests. Veterans and all active-duty military are encouraged to come in uniform.
Please contact Mr. Pete Mashinski at pmashinski@cvschools.org with any questions or to RSVP to the post-ceremony reception.

Additional Reminders
Emergency Communication/Official Channels for Communication
Please ensure that contact information - to include both home contacts and emergency contacts - for your child(ren) is up-to-date in Skyward as this is what is used to reach families in the event of an emergency, a change in schedule due to weather, transportation delays, etc. You are able to make changes to this information as needed throughout the school year.
Register for Text Alerts
Cumberland Valley School District uses text messaging as a mode of communication during inclement weather, emergencies, bus delays, and more. If you are a parent/guardian who is new to the District or if you have not previously signed up to receive text alerts, please sign into your Skyward Family Access account and complete the “Text (SMS) Notifications” form. For step-by-step directions, please click the "How do I register" link below.
1:1 Device Insurance
As a reminder, the deadline to enroll in our voluntary 1:1 device insurance program is November 4, 2022. Cost is $25 per student per year, with waivers in place for families facing economic hardship and families with four or more students. While not required, we strongly encourage parents/guardians to take advantage of this program as this optional insurance will help to decrease the out-of-pocket expenses families may have related to device damage.
Please reference the email sent to all families on September 15, 2022, for more enrollment details. Additionally, more info about the 1:1 program, including details about damage/insurance and device care/support, is also available on our website by clicking here.
