A Note From The Principal!

Hello Haynesfield Family,

We missed you this summer! We hope this letter finds you enjoying the last days of summer and anticipating the first days of school. The start of a new school year is upon us, and we want to share information with you that will help us begin a successful school year.

  • You will use the same car tag for student pick-up that you used last year. Please display this number on your rearview mirror when picking up your child from school this year.
  • To stay up-to-date follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
  • To receive weekly emails from the school, please make sure your email is updated in PowerSchool.
  • We encourage you to follow your child’s progress using PowerSchool and to sign up for notifications in Canvas.
  • Be sure to check out our school website for links to our school supplies lists, our 2019-20 school calendar, arrival / dismissal procedures, K - 6 Learning Guides, summer reading assignments and more.
  • The name of your child’s homeroom teacher will be posted in PowerSchool on Friday, August 2.
  • The first day of school is on Monday, August 5. The hours for this day are 8:10-10:10 a.m. Breakfast will be served. Students will report directly to the gym on this day.
  • School is closed on Tuesday, August 6. Wednesday, August 7 is the first full day for students.
  • Please make plans to attend Open House on Thursday, August 8 at 5:30-7:00. This will be a great opportunity to visit your child’s classroom(s) and meet your child’s new teacher(s).
  • The Back-to-School Bash is Friday, August 9. Look for a permission form to be sent home with your child.
  • Please review our arrival and dismissal procedures HERE. (They are also discussed below)
  • Early Morning Program drop-off available beginning Monday, August 5. After school LEAP program begins on Wednesday, August 7. Any student K-6 is eligible to attend.
  • New student orientation is Thursday, August 1 at 7:00 in the school library. This orientation is specifically for 1st-6th grade families who have moved or are transferring to Haynesfield Elementary School for the first time.

  • We will have morning LEAP but no after school LEAP. Morning LEAP drop-off begins at 7:00 a.m. and ends at 7:30 a.m.
  • Back doors will open @ 7:45 for all students
  • All students report to the gym first
  • Parents can only enter the building through the front office (sign in using drivers license for a visitor tag from 8:00-8:10)

A.N.C.H.O.R classes enter their sixth year at Haynesfield. The program is designed to provide students enrichment opportunities in an educational setting. A.N.C.H.O.R. is divided into two main components, remediation and electives. A course catalog will be coming home soon. First 9-weeks A.N.C.H.O.R will start on August 26th.

Safety Procedures

Attendance Matters

Attendance is essential for the progress of a student at school. The following are some rules/regulations to remember regarding the district attendance policy. Make sure to pay close attention to this section of your handbook which will come home with your student soon.

-Anyone arriving after the school day has started are required to check in through the office.

-If students need to leave school early, parents/guardians should sign those students out through the office

-Provide a doctor's excuse when possible

-A total of 5 absences will be excused, for reasons listed on page 4 of the handbook, based on parent/guardian notification via call-in, email, or note. Once the limit (5) has been reached, parents/guardians will receive a letter requiring doctor's excuses for future absences.

-A maximum of 3 days will be available for family cultural/educational activities annually. Forms are available in the office and on our school website. These forms must be filled out PRIOR to the requested days.

-After an accumulation of 3 unexcused absences, a student will enter into Tier 1 for attendance interventions which will include a conference with an attendance supervisor or designee and an attendance contract.

Attention Kindergarten Parents!

-Kindergarten Social Thursday, August 1@ 6PM on the upper level playground

-Letters were sent last week with specific information about your child's homeroom teacher and staggered schedule

-Supply list is located on the webpage

-Parent Orientation Monday, August 5 @ 8:30-9:30AM (A parent must attend with the student. The student will leave with the parent @ 9:30)

New School Secretary

Before and After School LEAP Program

Both Morning and Afternoon LEAP programs are registering K-6 students for the 2019-20 school year. The Before School LEAP Program will begin on Monday, August 5. The start date for after school LEAP will be Wednesday, August 7.
