Centerville Elementary is a Restricted School for the 2019-2020 School Year
Centerville Elementary is on the restricted schools list.
FCPS publishes a list of restricted schools annually. Parents and guardians must renew out-of-district transfers for students every year. Transfer requests for students whose daycare providers are located outside their assigned attendance area will be denied if the school the child would be attending has been declared restricted.
The at-capacity schools that are restricted for out-of-district transfers in September 2019 will continue under that designation for the 2019-2020 school year. School designations are re-evaluated annually based on projections.
Parents or guardians who wish to request an out-of-district transfer must apply by completing the appropriate form, online at www.fcps.org in the section labeled For Families and Students, beginning January 2 and through March 1, 2019. Those seeking to renew a request approved for the current school year must re-apply online, also between January 2 and March 1, 2019. Families will be notified of the decision by April 1, 2019. For assistance completing the form, families may call 240-236-2493 starting January 2.
Important Information
Dates for applying to attend a school outside the usual attendance area are January 2-March 1.*
FCPS will post the out-of-district application online on January 2 in the section For Families and Students at http://www.fcps.org/Those needing a paper copy may call 240-236-2493 after January 2.
Schools projected to be over capacity in the coming school year are closed to out-of-district students. FCPS will post the list of restricted schools online in December.

Recess Reminders
Absences from School
The information below has been copied form our calendar handbook.
Parents are encouraged to notify the school on the day their child is absent. A note stating the reason for absence or lateness is required upon the student’s return, or the absence is automatically classified as unlawful until an approved note is provided. Students who were absent from school have the responsibility to request make-up work within two days of their return. Students who take trips with their parents may be excused no more than twice during a year for a combined maximum of five days.
FCPS Regulation 500-25 mandates that a parent letter be sent when a student accumulates 3 days of unlawful absences in any marking term. It also stipulates that a student may receive an unsatisfactory mark in grades 1-3 and a failing grade in grades 4-5 in the affected class or classes if there is an excess of five (5) unlawful absences in a term. Elementary students who have been absent 27 days by the end of third term may be considered for possible retention. In middle and high schools, a student shall fail or lose credit if unlawful absences exceed 5 days in a term, 10 days in a semester or 20 days in a school year.
A note from a doctor, dentist, court official or counselor may be required for all absences beyond 10 days.
Mindset Reminder- Productive Struggle
Our students are building a skill set where he/she is able to work through difficult concepts by being problem-solvers and not giving up. It is okay that our students FAIL (First, Attempt, In, Learning) as it builds their desire to persevere and work through those difficult learning situations. Our staff is doing a great job of building perseverance with our students and the students are assisting each other with persevering. A little productive struggle will help our students grow academically, emotionally, and socially. Please click on the link below for some background information on productive struggle.
