Teaching Values to Guide Good Decisions

As parents, we spend a lot of time helping our children learn to accomplish the tasks they need to do to grow up and live in the world. We teach them to tie their shoes, read books, do math problems, put away their clothes. We also want to teach them to make good decisions, be honest, and be good people. We can help children learn to do these things by talking about morals, values, and ethics together. Morals describe how to be a good person. Values guide our decisions about what we do - what is right and wrong. Ethics are the rules about what is right and wrong. When we have conversations with our children about our values and morals it can help children understand how to make better decisions. It also helps them to feel secure. You can encourage children in their moral development by noticing the things they do that align with your family values.

Our First Meeting

Please come to the first meeting of the Murry Park Parent Leadership Team. It will be held on Monday, November 12th from 5:00 to 6:00 pm in the school Library. This is a great way to show your children that you value their education. The groups will work together to provide support to families, find innovative ways to promote the joy of learning, make decisions that will positively benefit all students. Murry Park's Schoolwide Title 1 Plan

As a Schoolwide Title 1 program we have goals to help support all our students, teachers and families. The first objective in our plan is to support all students through the best teaching practices of Readers and Writers workshop. This structure for literacy class provides whole class, small group and one on one teaching and learning opportunities. Ask your child what they are learning and working on in their readers or writers workhop.
