November 3, 2017

It is hard to believe that we are already done with the 1st grading period and November is here. November is a month of Thankfulness. We at Holy Cross are very thankful for your beautiful children and your families. Please take time this month to thank God for all of your blessings. Life may not be perfect and we all have challenges to face and mountains to climb, but we still have MUCH to be thankful for.

Please encourage your children to take advantage of all that their school days have to offer. There is information at the bottom of this newsletter about the Jr. Orange Art Contest. Our brand new Cosplay club is beginning soon for kids in 5th thru 8th grade. Get involved.

1st Quarter report cards were distributed at Parent-Teacher Conferences this week. If you did not attend a parent-teacher conference, that is unfortunate because this was a great opportunity to sit down and share with the teacher about your child. Your child will bring home the report card on Monday with a slip for you to sign and return.

You will find a link to the November lunch menu and an updated school calendar in this newsletter.

Cherrydale Farms Fall Sale IS HERE!

Students were sent home with the Cherrydale Fall Sale Packet. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year for our PTL. The deadline to turn in your orders to be considered for the big prizes is Monday, November 13th. We need to send in the orders immediately after that to insure delivery in time for Christmas. Please do your part and SELL!

There are prizes for everyone who sells, an invitation to a special field trip to those students who sell 10 or more items, special prizes for the top 3 sellers, a limo lunch for the top 8 sellers and stewardship hours waived for all parents who sell at least $500. All of the information in on the packet with the exception of the date change. The flyer is also attached to the bottom of this email.

Our lost and found in the office is growing, If an item is brought to the office and it does not have a name in it, it goes in the lost and found. Once it is in the lost and found, anyone can claim it. We have no way of knowing who the items belong to. If your child is missing an item, please check the lost and found. When it gets too large to manage, we will donate the non-uniform items to a charity and wash and put the uniform items in our used uniform store.

Picking kids up from school early

We strongly discourage you picking your children up from school early unless you have an appointment that cannot be scheduled at any other time, or a true emergency. However, please note that we cannot dismiss any student from school it is 30 minutes or less from the dismissal time. Please also note that when you come in to pick up your child early, the child could be anywhere on our property and it takes time to locate the child, pick up belongings, etc. Unless you call in advance, be prepared to wait. There is too much going on in the last 30 minutes of the day for a teacher to drop everything and get a child prepared to leave. If there truly is an urgent matter, please call the school office well in advance and we will have the child waiting for you in the office. This should be a very rare happening.

Cosplay Club is coming soon!

If you missed the meeting, it is not too late to be a part of our all new COSPLAY club, presented by our very talented Matthew Harden. This club is limited to 15 participants and will conflict with athletic practice so it probably will not work for any student who is playing basketball, kick-ball or track. There will be a one time fee that will include some start-up materials. Please plan this into your schedule if your son or daughter is interested. Flyers are included below, as well as a photo of Mr. Harden and I with his most recent Cosplay creation.

Cold Weather Jacket and Sweater Policy

If you review our dress code, you will see that students in K through 8th grade may wear sweaters and jackets that are SOLID COLORED Navy, Black, White or Gray ONLY. If your child does not have such a sweater or jacket, please obtain one over the weekend.

Or if you prefer, you can order a sweatshirt from Sunshine. My understanding is that these are now in stock and are shipping.

Sweatpants ARE NOT part of school uniform. They may be worn to school ON PE DAYS ONLY if the weather is cold. Every student should have a pair of long pants.

Girls may wear tights to school ON COLD DAYS under their jumpers or skorts.

A cold day is defined as temperature below 60 degrees before school. However, please keep an eye of the weather prediction because it can quickly heat up to high 70's and then your child may get too hot.
