Week Of November 6th

Highlights From Last Week....

We had a great week!

We kicked off our week with a Halloween Party! The kids looked adorable all dressed up! Thank you to all of those who donated snacks for our party!! They were YUMMY!

In Reader's Workshop, our friends worked really hard reading their books! They are using the picture and the first letter. They are also thinking about what they are reading to see if makes sense. They are enjoying the learning process! We will continue to practice our other strategies as well: looking at the picture while we read, trading out books, building stamina, practicing turning and talking.

In Writer's Workshop, we focused on writing across the pages and started to use our sight words to formulate sentences that match our story.

In Math, we finished our first unit and took our first unit test this week! The children did great!

In Phonics, we practiced letter sounds and learned the sight words "play" and "is", please practice these words at home. Our letters of the week were "p" and "j".

In Science, we started our unit on Motion! We took a pretest to see how much we already know and where we need to focus our instruction!

It was a great week!

A peek at our learning this week...

Can you believe it is the middle of November ALREADY?

A big shout out to all the veterans that have served our country! Thank you! We will learn about veterans this week.

In Reader's Workshop, we are going to continue to look at the picture AND the first letter of the word to see if it makes sense! We will continue to practice our other strategies as well: looking at the picture while we read, trading out books, practicing turning and talking.

In Writer's Workshop, we will continue to add details, action, speech bubbles and sentences to our writing this week, but our focus will be on characters and how they are feeling. We will have to use evidence from the text to support our answers.

In Math, we will start our next units on shapes! I am so proud of our learners!!

In Phonics, we will be practicing letter sounds and learning the sight words "look" and "to", please practice these words at home. Our letter of the week will be "H",and "K".

In Science, we will continue our unit on Motion. We will conduct several mini experiments to aid in our learning!

Great job reading with your child!

Our classroom is filling up with clothes that have no home! Please LABEL EVERYTHING!! If your child is missing sweatshirts or lunch boxes, please let me know.

Thank you!!

Notes from Mrs. Maillet

A HUGE shout out and THANK YOU to Mrs. Duquette for organizing the classroom party AND helping out ALL day!! We REALLY appreciate your help! Also, thank you to Miss Meghan and Miss Lisa for helping in the classroom this week, we LOVE having you!

Book orders were sent home and due on November 10th. Thank you for your support!

As you know the seasons are changing and the temperatures are cooling off. I realized that the extra set of clothes that I have in class are mostly summer/fall clothes that need an update. I will send home the baggies of the change of clothes we had for your child on Monday, please replace the clothes with warmer clothes. Please make sure to add a complete set of clothes! Thank you!

Notes from Miss Driscoll

Last week was a busy week. A very big thank you to all who were able to donate goodies for our Halloween party. We had a blast. We were lucky enough to have Mrs. Varterisian come in to talk about bees and let us try some of her yummy honey. Students also took their first Math Assessment last week. Some children still need some practice with number writing and number recognition. Please try to practice these daily with the letters and words. I sent home flash cards for numbers that also have what the number looks like in a ten frame on the back!

Book orders were due Friday, please try to turn them in as soon as possible. I will be making the order by Tuesday, November 6th!

I sent home the changes of clothes that were turned in at the beginning of the year, please return a new change of clothes for the colder months. Don’t forget to label them!

Notes from Mrs. Potter

We had such a busy week! The kids did a great job on our first math assessment! Some of our friends still need a little extra practice with their number writing! If you get a chance, have your child write the numbers 1-10 and see if they can do it without any number reversals!

Please label clothing items-even if it's just initials on the tag! We are starting to accumulate a small collection of shirts/sweatshirts in our classroom and no one is claiming them!

It is amazing to see how far the kids have come in just a couple months! Keep up the practice at home, your kids are doing amazing!!

Notes from Mrs. Marcoux

Thank you for the class donations for our Halloween party, the kids looked adorable and had a blast playing games.

A big shout out to Mrs. Varteresian, a local beekeeper who came in and shared her expertise with us. The children were still talking about it on Friday.

There is a mountain of clothing in the cafeteria, if your child is missing any items, please check when you can. It would be helpful if we could have all coats, sweatshirts, etc. labeled with your child's name in case they misplace something.

We will be learning about veteran's this week. Thank you to any of you who have served our country!

Just a reminder, there will be no school on Friday, November 10th.

Please keep practicing the letter names, sounds and sight words with your children, they are doing a great job!

Mrs. Marcoux

Notes from Mrs. Goldthwaite

Thanks for a great program of learning about Honey Bees.

Please label the students belongings. There are too many things for me to remember who's things belong to who. Our lost and found is over flowing. If you have a chance come and take a look. They are in the cafe.

PTO is having a game night November 17th.6-7:30. Please come see what it is all about. It is a great way to get involved.

It would be great if you get a chance to read to your son / daughter and practice sight words and letters and letter sounds.

Picture retakes are November 15th.

No school next Friday November 10th.

Our klorox wipes are almost out. If you could donate anything at this time wipes are a good thing.

I am really excited to be teaching your children! They are making great progress. Thanks for your continued support.

Thank you for all that you do! Keep up the great work!
