DESCRIPTION OF THE ARTWORK
Una bacante
One of the best nudes performed by Julio Romero de Torres (Córdoba, 1874-1930), the Venus of poetry has been shown to the public today for the first time. The work belongs to the BBVA Foundation, which deposits the painting in the Museum of Fine Arts of Bilbao.
The Venus of poetry was painted in 1913 and Julio Romero used, as a patchwork, several models to reach the final image of the Venus.
The composition is centered on a fountain and the Renaissance door of the Bridge of Cordoba between rows of trees, and in the distance, in the distance, the river and the city of Córdoba can be glimpsed.
The composition of the canvas, according to the experts, is inspired by the work Venus recreating in the love and music, by Titian, similarities that demonstrate the admiration and knowledge that Romero de Torres had of the Italian masters.
