Friday Dismissal Time 1 p.m.
Letter from the Principal
Dear Central Families –
This has been another great week at school. Our teachers are beginning their academic assessments to learn more about each student’s academic level and where we can provide thoughtful, supportive interventions. As we all know the last 18 months have been challenging for so many reasons, and we want to know our student’s strengths and areas for growth.
Safety for everyone is so incredibly important to us. Please read the following safety points below for arrival and dismissal.
- Please use the crosswalk in front of our school whenever you are crossing Union. Before and after school PLEASE follow our crossing guard’s directions as she is stopping traffic going all 3 ways.
- Our pull-thru in the front of the building is for drop-off and not for parking. Signs are posted to please pull all the way forward and do not leave car unattended.
- Our parking lot is just for busses and staff parking.
- Students will not be released to run across the street and meet you. Our school is situated on a blind hill up from downtown and drivers don’t always follow the posted speed and are often surprised to see a school at the top of the hill.
- If your child’s transportation plans change, please call our school office before 1 p.m. Again, multiple changes can be confusing for young students, classroom teachers and caregivers, please try to be as consistent as possible.
With the weather starting to change and the daylight getting shorter it is incredibly important that everyone is driving carefully around our building. We have had situations where distracted drivers don’t see small children walking with their parents and we want to do everything we can to create a safe environment for arrival and dismissal. Thank you for your help and patience with all our safety procedures.
Take care,
Mrs. Rothgeb

Central's School Hours
Friday 8:20-1 p.m.
Doors open at 8:15 a.m. for classrooms
Students can start arriving at 8 a.m. for breakfast or at 8:15 a.m. to go directly to classrooms. Students shuttling to Emerson should not arrive earlier than 8 a.m. and should line up by the playground fence. Please use our pull through area on the street in front of school for dropping off your student. If you are planning on leaving your car, you must park your car legally on the street. The parking lot is for staff and bus use only.
Please use the crosswalks and encourage your children to do so as well when traveling to and from school. The crosswalk in front of our building on Union Ave is staffed during arrival and departure times.
Attendance
Research shows that regular attendance and punctuality have a positive effect on student learning and achievement. Regular attendance is essential to a student’s success in school.
If a student is going to be absent or tardy from school, the parent should call the school’s absentee message line, 360-563-4602, or email cpc-attendance@sno.wednet.edu, before 8:15 a.m. in the morning. Messages may be left on this message line at any time night or day. If we have not heard from you, we will attempt to call you to verify your student’s safety. For safety reasons, no student may leave the school campus during the school day without being signed out in person by his/her guardian or a designated adult.
According to Snohomish School District policy, absences due to illness or a health condition; a religious observance when requested by the student’s parents; a school approved activity; a family emergency; a school disciplinary action or short-term suspension as required by state law, are excused. When a student returns to school after an absence, according to state law, they must bring a note from their parent(s) verifying the reason for the absence. The note should include the date of absence, the reason and a parent signature.
Afternoon transportation changes
Same day transportation and pick up changes need to be requested by 1 p.m., Monday-Thursday and 12 noon on Fridays. Due to the current climate and limited bus space, no temporary bus changes will be granted. For example, Student A riding a different bus home with Student B for a playdate is not available at this time.
Please be aware transportation changes may take up to a week to process, so please allow for extra processing time. Due to the current climate and limited bus space, no temporary bus changes will be granted. For example, Student A riding a different bus home with Student B for a playdate is not available at this time.

Counselor Corner
Hello Central Families!
My name is Crystal Williams and I am the school counselor here at Central Primary. Many of the students here know me as the “feelings and problems teacher”! It has been great seeing the 1st and 2nd graders back, as well as all the new Kindergartners. I love seeing their bright, shiny faces excited for school each day!
This is my 5th year as the school counselor at Central and I absolutely love my job! I have my Masters in Social Work from the University of Washington and before working as a school counselor, I worked with families during crises to help strengthen the family unit. Now as a school counselor, I thoroughly enjoy working with students each and every day to help them grow as life-long learners and caring human beings. Throughout the school year, I will support students socially and emotionally on an individual level as needed, as well as in small group settings and whole classroom lessons.
I am at Central full-time, Monday-Friday, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if a problem or change comes up at home that seems to be impacting your child or if you are need of support and/or resources. My direct phone number is (360) 563-4612 and my email is: crystal.williams@sno.wednet.edu
I recognize the stress that the past year has put on families and I want you to know our Central/Emerson school community cares about you and your family’s well-being. If you are struggling financially at this time, we have two resources that can help your student get new clothing and shoes: Operation School Bell and Clothes for Kids. If you are interested in one or both of these resources, please reach out to me and I can give you more specific information.
Thank you, take care, and here’s to a great school year!
Crystal Williams, MSW
Central School Counselor
communications
Thursday Folders: Good communication is important between school and home. To assist parents in the communication process, we use the Thursday folder system for school-wide communication. Your child(ren) will be provided a folder. Please check items sent home in this folder and return to school the next school day. There is a weekly progress report that comes home as well. If your child is not bringing home a folder on Thursday, please check with him/her as to the reason.
School Website: Please bookmark Central's website. We hope to meet the needs of our parents, students, staff and community users.
Listserv - Our district uses a listserv to send newsletters, high school daily bulletins and other regular electronic communications from our schools and district. More than 10,000 people have already subscribed to our district's listserv application. If you have not already subscribed and would like to receive newsletters from Central Primary Center, district news and/or information from other schools, please click here to follow the directions and subscribe to our listserv (SSD-Communications) You can also edit your subscription preferences through this site.
School Messenger - Our district uses the School Messenger automated system as a tool for communication with our parents, families and staff. School Messenger works with the district’s student-data system (Skyward/Family Access) to notify parents/guardians and staff through phone and/or email of emergencies, critical school and district messages, school/district closures, inclement weather, attendance issues, underfunded student meal accounts and other events/activities. The overall goal of using this service is for parents/guardians to receive critical information about Snohomish schools - especially information that affects their children - in a timely manner. As long as we have accurate primary phone numbers and emails on record for our students in Skyward/Family Access, parents/guardians should automatically receive these messages when they are sent out.
Community Flyers: All district-approved community fliers are located on our school website under the Community tab at the top of the page or you can follow the link at the bottom of this newsletter. Click on the section called District Approved Community Fliers. Fliers are reviewed and posted weekly by the school district (typically on Tuesdays). Feel free to email with any questions or concerns.
Important Message from our District Office
Masks/face coverings
It is clear in the updated guidance and from directives from Governor Inslee that masks/face coverings are required inside of all K-12 schools and on all buses, regardless of vaccination status. This is a state requirement. Masks/face coverings are not required when outdoors. Mask/face covering exceptions may be made for students with certain medical conditions or receiving special education services in some cases and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
School Staff Vaccinations
Governor Inslee announced a new directive requiring all employees of public and private K–12 school districts to be vaccinated against COVID-19 by October 18, 2021. Our district is working to assure that all school employees working with students will be vaccinated before the deadline.
