Orchestra Times
Stanton 4th Grade Orchestra - May 4, 2019
5th Grade Specials Registration Due May 10th
Dear Stanton 4th Grade Orchestra Families,
Next year in 5th Grade your child has a choice for one of their specials block courses between the options of 5th Grade String Orchestra and Technology classes. All 4th Grade Orchestra families need to fill out the online form listed below to indicate their choice by May 10th.
All 5th Grade Students
In 5th Grade all students will have art, PE, general music, and library during specials time. As a part of classroom activities, all students will be getting to use the innovative space and do STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) activities as part of math and science classes.
Middle School Prerequisites
To be allowed to sign up for 6th Grade Orchestra, the prerequisite is 5th Grade Orchestra. This is because students in orchestra keep building more advanced levels of playing on the previous skills they have developed.
The other 6th ENCORE (specials) block classes do not have classes that are required to take to be able to enroll. There are keyboarding and computer classes the middle school students can take in addition to other ENCORE block classes.
String Orchestra/Technology Course Descriptions
Check out the links at the top of the form to learn more about 5th Grade Orchestra (video, info sheet, and Why Strings?) and Technology (info sheet).
5th GRADE STRING ORCHESTRA / TECHNOLOGY ENROLLMENT FORM
To indicate if your student is going to do 5th Grade String Orchestra (playing violin, viola, cello, or bass) or Technology for their specials choice next year please fill out the online 5th Grade String Orchestra/Technology Enrollment:

Return Borrowed Instruments May 13th - 15th
If have a book that you have borrowed from the school (this year or last year), please also return it.
Want to do orchestra and improve typing?
Students can also practice typing on their own using these (and other) websites:
5th Grade Orchestra Highlights

- Learn more advanced songs
- Continue learning how to read music
- Playing at the Winter Dinner Concert
- Write your own song
- Can audition for the 5th Grade Honors Orchestra
- Play a song with the Middle School and High School Orchestras

In 5th Grade Orchestra, continuing to play the same instrument is recommended so students can keep building on what they have already learned. If your student would really like to change instruments, please email me at huskyjennifer@rsdmo.org since switching instruments is not an option on the form.
In Middle and High School Orchestra students start going on bigger trips. Next year the 8th Grade and High School Orchestra students are going to Nashville!
5th Grade Orchestra Supply List
Please have your student keep their music from 4th grade orchestra in their binder for 5th grade orchestra. Please check the rings of your student's binder to see if they need a new one for next year.
Mrs. Husky's YouTube Channel
Check out cool videos of string playing on Mrs. Husky's YouTube Channel:
In honor of "May the Fourth Be With You" this weekend, check out the Cello Wars video.
For "Cinco de Mayo" check out this video of a Mariachi group.
In class we listened to the opening of the 4th Movement of Dvorak's 9th Symphony "From the New World." John Williams was inspired by this when he wrote the theme to Jaws. More recently the group PinkFong was inspired by both of these when they did their version of Baby Shark.
