Week of April 11-15

Check Out Our Learning-Filled Week!

Monday-Welcome back! I hope everyone had a nice spring break. Everyone did a great job of remembering the school routine. During writing, we wrote about the things we did during spring break. Students had to choose their favorite thing. The spring break plans included visiting the beach, picking flowers, and riding bikes. During literacy, we started our reading groups again. Please continue to read each night and sign the text copy. Also, continue practicing the sight words each night. We also created a flower craft to hang in our classroom. Students were asked to create patterns with the petals. Check out the picture below.

Tuesday-For our busy Tuesday, our book buddies visited. They helped us remember all of the things plants need in order to survive. During guidance, students created spring cards for the residents of The Crozet Meadows. We love designing and creating things for members of our community. During literacy, students put sentences in order. They were given words to make into a sentence that made sense. They are recognizing that sentences begin with capital letters and end with a punctuation. In writing, we wrote about things we do during the month of April. Ideas included going to the zoo, swimming in the pool, and playing soccer. The handwriting is so neat! During our laptop rotation, students practiced using Raz Kids to work on fluency and comprehension. Feel free to use at home.

Wednesday-In math, students were given the task of writing numbers to 30. I was so impressed with how the students wrote the numbers so neatly as well as in the correct order! We watched a Brain Pop Jr. about migration. We talked about birds and how they migrate. Students created their own birds to "fly" in our classroom. Check out the picture below. We also played a fun sight word. Students chose five of their favorite sight words and then played "Roll-A-Sight-Word". Students were then asked to write sentences using the sight words they chose.

Thursday-During literacy, we utilized our iPod apps to spell words. Students were even asked to write sentences using these words. We also had an exciting opportunity today. Ms. White and a third grade student, visited Kindergarten to teach us about the MiPosaur. The third grader demonstrated how he programmed the MiPosaur to listen to his commands. There are also MiPosaur apps to use with the robot. It was very exciting. We found out that a few students in our class have their very own MiPosaur at home.

Friday-Our school wore purple to support military families and kids. Our class held a special celebration for students who had family members who serve or served in the military. It was a special day honoring these families. We also had non-fiction Friday! We read our Let's Find Out about a frog's life cycle. We watched the short videos about frogs. The videos and interactive games can be found on the Let's Find Out website. Enjoy! Students also completed a sequencing activity with the stages of the life cycle of a frog. We learned so much!
