CHS STUDENTS ATTEND CHINESE FESTIVAL
Several CHS students attended the Chinese Festival last Friday to support the Mandarin curriculum taught by their teacher, Ms. ChenLing Lu. The festival highlighted many exciting features that represent Chinese culture, such as the lion dance, a traditional Chinese dance that highlighted people in colorful dragon costumes dancing to the beat of a drum. Popular Chinese items were also on display, including wooden fans, rice hats, jade jewelry, and many religious sculptures. Pandas, a significant symbol in China, could be seen everywhere. Students thoroughly enjoyed the festival.
IB UPDATE
On Friday the IB Science students completed their IB Group 4 projects. The IB Group 4 Project is a collaborative activity where students from different science course (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science) work together on a scientific topic, allowing for concepts and perceptions from across the disciplines to be shared. The aims are to develop and apply information and communication technology skills in the study of science, to raise awareness of the moral, ethical, social, economic and environmental implications of using science and technology, and to encourage an understanding of the relationships between scientific disciplines and the overarching nature of the scientific method.
SPORTS MEDICINE CLUB
Members of the HOSA Sports Medicine Club recently attended the AzATA/AZHOSA Sports Medicine Conference in Phoenix. Students listened to lectures on such topics as spine boarding and "cupping" therapy. Club members also competed against other valley high schools in taping techniques.

Student Council is bringing back a tradition at CHS…. MORP! What is MORP? It’s the total opposite of Prom. Girls ask the guys, and couples come in casual matching attire. Tennis shoes only since we will be in Payne Gym. Tickets are on sell in the bookstore for $10/person. Guest passes are also available in the bookstore and must be completed and turned in to Mrs. Templeton’s office by Friday, February 17th.
COLLEGE APPLICATION INITIATIVE
The Chandler High Counseling Department’s goal is to have ALL seniors apply to at least one post-secondary school. This would include universities, community colleges, trade schools or the US Armed Forces. On February 15th-17th, all Senior Economics and/or US Government classes will be in the library, and each senior will show verification as to where they will be attending for the Fall 2017. For each institution they have applied to, their name will be placed into a drawing (Target $25 & $50 gift cards). Counselors will be on hand to help those students who have not applied anywhere and walk them through the application process.
