Good Morning!
WHY A NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL? If the District stays K-6, it would need three new elementary schools by the end of the decade, according to the District’s latest demographer, MGT Consulting. If the District moves 6th grade back to middle school, one new middle school would not be enough, as the WSD is projected to have over 1,500 6th graders the year the new middle school would open in 2022. Armed with that information, the Board of Education voted unanimously to put Proposition C (and Proposition S) on the April ballot. Here is a quick explanation of the options the Board discussed before landing on what to place on the ballot.
Props C&S both address the District's continued growth: for additional classroom space (Prop C) and funds to hire more staff and address pay discrepancies with neighboring districts (Prop S), as well as safety needs across the District (Props C&S). For more information about both propositions, visit the WSD website. #Building4OurFuture
Don't forget: If you are not registered to vote, or if you have moved or changed your name, the deadline to submit the registration application in order to vote in the April election is TOMORROW - March 11.
