PTSA Donation Drive Continues through February 10.
Clothing Pickup at your Home:
Need PTSA to pick up the donations instead of dropping them off at Hallie Wells?
Michelle, from the PTSA, is willing to drive to your home and pick up the sorted donations in the 13 gallon trash bags from your front door.
Just send Michelle a text with your address and the number of bags you have, so she can come around and do the pick-up. Leave the bags on your doorstep with a note that says PTSA!
Text Michelle at: 215-527-7947
Pickup Dates:
· Saturday & Sunday – Feb 4, 5
· Text her for pickup on another day
Pickup Times:
· She will start picking up items at around 4:00
Clothing drive! Teddy bears too. We collect the clothes and other items, give it FUNDDRIVE and they pay us for the donation. They sell the donations and give the proceeds to nonprofits, such as the National Childrens Center.
Dates of drive: Jan 30, Mon to Feb 9, Thursday.
Location of drop off: HW foyer (not the office) between 7:40 and 4:00 PM
Clothes and other donations must be sorted into 3 sets in 13 gallon trash bags. HW has also requested that the 13 gallon bags be put inside heavy duty trash bags (we will provide the heavy duty bags and leave them in the school foyer for you if you need it).
When you drop off your stuff, please make sure the 13 gallon trash bags are sorted properly.
The list of three sort categories, what you are not allowed to donate, and the tax form are on the HW PTSA webpage http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/schools/halliewellsms/PTSA.aspx.
Mrs. Hanington's Unsung Hero Empower Hour!
Ms. Hanington's students researched Hallie Wells, Rosalind Franklin, Richard Wright, Bob Wyatt, Helen Denton and Eugene Lazowski. They gathered information and chose the format to present their information about their unsung heroes.
Students felt empowered by doing these projects. It allowed them to work with others to share ideas, provide feedback and present research in front of an audience. They were a TEAM! They supported and encouraged each other. After reflecting on the presentation night, the students said that they enjoyed sharing what they learned. They also are extremely motivated to continue researching in order to present to staff, family and friends.
So proud of our emerging researchers.
February 6-10: National School Counseling Week
Hallie Wells is fortunate to have two top-notch counselors: Mr. Cassel and Ms. Enstrom. They are supported by Ms. Parrish, who does so much to keep the entire counseling office running smoothly. This fantastic team helps our students achieve academic and social emotional successes, helps students explore their abilities, strength, interests and talents and reaches out to teachers and parents.
Consider celebrating all this team does by writing a note to the Counseling Office to say "thank you" for all they do for the students of Hallie Wells.

Car Pool Drop Off
To keep everyone safe, please follow a few reminders:
- Students cannot enter the building before 7:50.
- Pull as far forward as possible.
- Maintain one single line of vehicles awaiting drop-off.
- Have your child prepare to leave the car as you pull into the lot, for a smooth exit out of the car: book-bag, coat, lunch, musical instrument, etc., to exit the car.
- Students should exit out of the passenger side (by the curb), only.
- If you need to pull past another car after you've dropped off, be mindful of the traffic. Drive slowly--keep an eye out for students who might not be following the safety protocol.
- Be patient--Hallie Wells only has one security assistant, Mr. Hurtado. Next year we expect to have another security assistant, which will help during drop off and pick up.
